Sometimes its the dumbest things in life that make you feel accomplished.

I recently bought a Data East mini and after some posts back and forth with @PSX_Specter here:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/data-east-my-arcade-mini-playing-neo-geo-games-p.526051/

I ended up with a device that could pretty much launch all sorts of emulation from the NES to the PSX. However the idea of getting this was having a nice unit that i could have in my desk office at work. Obviously playing games is not something that is productive during work hours. So i figured I add a purpose to it with something that i could make some enjoyment out of while being productive. So i took it to google and being the weeb that I am I googled how to make an app that plays nice with m3u streams for anime music on online radio stations.

i found this golden nugget in java code:

if (initialStage) {
new Player().execute("http://urlwouldgoherebutiamommittingittocomplywithrules");
} else {
if (!mediaPlayer.isPlaying())
mediaPlayer.start();
}

turns out that the android built in media player can fetch an online stream for you which is pretty handy...

So i ended up making this piece of homebrew for a device that was never meant to go online wirelessly to begin with:

I could probably have sideloaded a shoutcast apk but this is a super light weight home made app that will stream weeb music for me while working at the office at a low volume. I also had the great feeling that i made this thing serve a purpose far out of what its original purpose was. life is good :D

I think the dumbest thing I've done in recent memory because of 'why not' reasons, was getting the combine soldier in HL2 to fire the RPG. This was actually my second attempt after trying it about 7 years ago and I'm still not sure if I actually had to do the following.

You may think this is easy but there were a couple of issues:
1) Valve ****ed up the SDK
2) The combine source code was missing the RPG and animations (don't know if the latter was an actual cause, just a hunch based on observation in game)

The first part I managed to find solutions to over the course of two days, I should had stopped on the first day. It involved using third party tools and installing an older versions of Visual Studios.

The second part was two stages.

The source code was an easy enough attempt, just adding the RPG to the 'include' section and maybe copying/pasting some code from the citizens.

The model was more tedious, yet somehow felt easier than getting the source SDK to work.

At first I thought I would need to use something like blender to add the animations after de-compiling the model, but as it turned out, the animations for models are separate already and linked by a text file, so I just had to copy and paste the animations/text from a citizen model. The tedious part was that the models are different so I had to go through them step by step, removing the offending lines (IIRC the citizens had extra fingers).

To add stupid to stupid, I used the 'compile and error' method to find out the problems.

However, somehow it felt satisfying when I loaded up a simple map and saw the combine soldier fire an RPG at me.

    Speaking of meatballs, what's the deal with meatball sandwich? How can people eat those? It's ROUND. Trying to bite those in a sandwich is a challenge. It's easier to eat a burger stacked with toppings. :ninja:
