Something related to damaged laptops

Because I don't want "worth it?" to become a meme.
Well, anyways, I'm trying to snipe a cheap laptop that could play videos just fine. It doesn't have to be a demon because i will install Linux on it anyways.

I'm looking at these "damaged" ones. They sell them for really cheap, most of them work but don't include a HDD/SSD storage. The other ones are due to faulty main board. [150pln isn't that bad for a replacement] And obviously, the other one with LCD broken, missing LCD, missing everything and god knows what else is it missing.
The other ones are with dying GPU, Destroyed LED, Keyboards ripped out [what the fuck], Touchpad looks like it's been fingered regularly. etc.

Well, is it worth getting one? It seems ancient [Intel Dual Core 2] but if it can play anime smoothly, then i will not complain. I'm not a dumb kid which doesn't know how to fix his tools and i even improvise so i can get my stuff working. [Awful example being that i managed to fix a broken table with a piece of plank i found on street, later it was thrown out with table itself]
I still have some shit to fix and learning even more stuff related to electronics doesn't hurt. It's my hobby tbh.

Is it worth going for these, Temp? They might come in handy and they will sure be useful if i install Linux on them.
And as always, See you in a yet another boring and damaged blog posts(tm)

It's not like that i already said that i'm getting a tablet next month and i want a laptop so i can watch on bigger screen and be able to fuck around with linux...

If it's Windows one. I'm not going to install Linux on a touchscreen device. Android is more suitable for it...

Tablets suck, you need to root them to do anything serious things, use old Linux Kernel and I doubt that most of your apps which you know and love will be there without compiling, better get a PC with Intel 8008 and compile linux there(Livestream it)...

Welp, if you buy a tablet that has hdmi output you could use it to watch things on a bigger screen without the need to buy additional hardware that *potentialy* could give you some headache to fix

Not to mention that if your screen breaks and you don't have an HDMI output you are 100% screwed, unlike laptops which I had onw with broken screen and worked like Windows XP(OK inother words, it was still in extended support)

@vinipeix
Eh, most are micro-hdmi anyways

Personally, if it's just for watching videos and running Linux (essential did I mention I use Arch Linux meme etc etc), I'd just get one of those cheap shit 2in1 tablets, like by Asus or whatever, I always prefer a physical keyboard when it comes to typing, but I like touch for browsing and navigating :)

@Shadowfied
Well, I don't want a tablet with 1GB of RAM and most cheap 2in1 tablets costs atleast 600pln :d
It's not that cheap for me, if you ask me.

@Felek666 Adapters are pretty cheap these days and work well

But idk, I'm just suggesting this as an option
If you're really willing to repair a broken computer to learn more about it it's a good thing
But to repair it just to be able to watch things on a bigger screen, in my opinion, would be a waste of effort since you're buying a tablet already

Another alternative to learn linux would be install a virtual machine on your current pc if you have one

If it's not 1080p 10bit smooth playback you're into, than that C2D will be just fine, 4gb ram will be gewd :3

honestly, look to see if you can find the missing keyboard and stuff, my our old laptop screen would'nt display images, so i took it apart to find whats wrong, the cable wasn't in all the way *facepalm. Just see if you can find the replacement parts first.

I would get a Kindle Fire Stick or a Chrome Cast, as you can play them on any screen in your house that has HDMI in.

However, if you want portability or privacy for... uh... steamy vids... I would recommend a tablet instead. Laptops, at least from my experiance, have bigger issues in everything (breaking, slowdowns, malware crap, slowdowns, portability, slowdowns) with the exception of charging ports becoming loose.

If tablets are "Fuck you Phi no tablets", then I would go ahead with the laptop ideas. I suggest getting anything without a screen hinge issue, as those will fuck with you in the long run. Trust me on that, there is nothing worse than finding a comfy position on the couch only for the screen to tilt right out of view.

Also if you want something that is stupid easy to repair and find parts to. Look for "Thinkpads" it doesn't matter if it's IBM or Lenovo since it's IBM's department that Lenovo just have control over. They're superb and you can even drop those bastards on the floor and they still work fine.
