@Scott_pilgrim: What's your favorite show in the dragon ball series?

That's a good question, kiddo. :D

My first contact with the DB World was with the first series (Kid Goku & Bulma teaming up to search for the 7 Dragon Balls around the world).

At the very beginning, I enjoyed it and became attached to the series, but didn't pay a lot of attention to the story and didn't care much if I missed an episode. Then, few years later, DBZ arrived to the TV and everything changed: I became glued and couldn't miss an episode. I believe it was the action, awesome fights and power-ups that made me enjoy it so much.

I only became more fond of the first series as a teenager. And since 2015, I've been enjoying Dragon Ball Super quite a lot too.

My least favorite is DBGT, but I used to like it a lot back in the day because there was no DB Super to continue the story properly as there is now.

Since DBS anime is currently on hiatus, I've been reading the manga chapters that are released monthly. But I still enjoy watching certain sagas or random episodes from whole the series every once in a while.

And this is the story of my life in regards to the DB Series, thanks for asking.

*mic drop*

(Oops, just realized this may be a TL;DR moment now and had to create a blog entry).

I've never watched much Dragon Ball, honestly and personally; I've watched part of the first episode, and...eh.

...When does it start getting good?

@AkiraKurusu, let me try to help you here:
  • Dragon Ball: It's more focused on the quest to gather all the 7 Dragon Balls with some fights with enemies that want to also gather the 7 Dragon Balls and have their wish granted. There's hard training and great fights and the World Martial Arts Tournament (Tenkaichi Budokai) is introduced for the first time and can't be missed.
  • Dragon Ball Z/Kai: Akira Toriyama expands the character roster and, although the main story is still focused in saving the Earth, you now have other planets and species introduced in the series. The 7 Dragon Balls are still important, but you have a bigger focus in the fighting scenes, character transformation and power-ups. Goku will find more rivals and the worse foes ever. The series is split in 4 major arcs: 1. Saiyans Arc; 2. Frieza Arc; 3. Androids & Cell Arc; 4. Majin-Buu Arc. It was re-released later as Dragon Ball Kai (a remastered HD version of the original DBZ series with re-recorded voices from the original cast (Japanese) but without the filler episodes, following the story from the original manga more accurately).
  • Dragon Ball GT: It's the only series that is considered non-canon, as it isn't part of the main story written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama in the manga. It was developed and produced as an Anime by Toei Animation and it is considered an anime-exclusive sequel with Akira Toriyama's approval in regards to character development and design. It tells the story of Goku & Friends few years after the end of Dragon Ball Z. It's good, but not the best series in my opinion. It introduces a few new interesting concepts, but it's only worth watching if you become attached to the DB & DBZ/Kai series.
  • Dragon Ball Super: The story takes place between DBZ/Kai and DBGT. It's funny, has most of the main characters from the series with the original cast (Japanese) and keeps the same fighting environment, adding up new characters, transformations, universes and challenges, but focusing on Goku & Friends saving the Earth or their Universe from old and new foes. You can't miss DB Super if you have enjoyed the other series. :yay:
  • Super Dragon Ball Heroes: Promotional anime series created by Toei Animation for the card and video games of the same name.
You will have OVA's and movies in each series that are worth watching too. :)

I recommend you to watch everything in Japanese (original cast) with English subs. The Funimation dub is good, don't get me wrong, but they changed a few things in the series (including the O.S.T.). That's enough of a reason to go with the original and take the most of it. :)

And I think this sums up the series a bit without giving you spoilers. :D

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
