Not much happened on this day, just a crackfix for the pc-game Maelstrom by Razor. I am gonna link some screenshots to the dirname for decent games, so if you're interested how games looked back then, feel free to check them out 
Maelstrom_RETAIL_CRACK-RAZOR [1 File/155k]
Comment: This is a crackfix for Maelstrom_RETAIL-RAZOR which got released on Feb. the 5th. Back then "hidden" copy-protections that only came up after you reached a certain point of the game were used by alot of companies. So to make sure there was no protection, you had to spend quite some amount of playtesting a release. Fearing to lose the race, alot of groups just checked the game real quick and then put it out. Incase there was indeed a protection of some sort later in the game, they'd just release a crack or crackfix later. Depending how far into the game the protection appeared, this could even be a couple of days later, like 3 days for this game. There was also another crack released by INC Maelstrom_RETAIL_CRACK-INC, in the nfo they flame RAZOR for putting out the game without any decent amount of playtesting. I cannot tell anymore at what day this got released, but it was prolly the same one then the RAZOR crack. It was not unusual that several groups duped each other by putting out the same game at the very same day. One reason for this is, that releases spreaded so slow, so the other groups just didn't know the game was acutally released yet, because it had not been uploaded on any of their BBSes yet. Altho often they would just release being aware that another group beat them, hoping to still manage to get the release to the most important BBSes before the earlier release got uploaded there. Usually it was considered that not the group who released first, but who managed to spread to the important BBSes first, was the one considered to have won the release.
There also exists a beta of this game Maelstrom-RAZOR, released on Oct. the 10th 1992 - almost 4 months before the retail date!
