Just like with the "damaged" Wii and the three bad DS-Lite I asked a friend to get me a very cheap O2DS via eBay-Kleinanzeigen. The description was discouraging: "Broken screen." The LCD unit for O2DS systems is pretty expensive compared to the value of the cheap device. Economically speaking: It does not make much sense to order a new LCD if you don't have personal reasons to cling onto your console.
To be honest I just bought the O2DS hoping it was one of the later models (non-removable WiFi chip, differently looking motherboard) to take a good picture of the board. When it arrived I was very disappointed. Packaging was good (opposed to the shoe box containing the three DS-Lite without padding). Other than that… really disappointing. It did not turn on. Not even an LED. I plugged in the charger and the charging light turned on (and stayed on). Still no reaction from the console when pressing (Power). In addition to that the touch panel was broken beyond belief. It was transforming itself into small crumbs. Looked really depressing.
Sinchen: "Nothing I can do with this one! I will go home get the screwdriver."
I went home from my friend's house. The next disappointment: It is one of the old models. No good photo of the new revision motherboard. What a waste of money! What a waste of time!
After that LittleSinchen went into desperation mode: I grabbed an SPR-003 battery lying on my desk, held it against the O2DS' battery connectors, and pressed (Power). The desperate idea was a good one:
The only problem besides the bad touch panel was a very deeply discharged battery. So deeply discharged that the voltage was too low to boot even with charger connected. But the battery charged normally and is working since.
I ordered a new touchscreen from an online shop in Germany (a little more expensive than from China, but I did not want to wait). Now we have a fully working O2DS. The shell looks really beaten but it is exactly what we needed for my friend's daughter. She shall prove she can handle electronics with care before I buy her a N3DS(XL).
Sorry for the bad picture. The O2DS is no longer in my possession and the horses are already galloping (The horse game is just asking the player to select a water hose to fill a trough and to aim the water by tilting the Nintendo 3DS).
Closing comment: It was really hard to backup the 2 in 1 horse game cartridge. Sinchen feels so uncomfortable when there is new data which is not yet backed up.

- The blue LED turned on
- The screen backlight turned on
- The Home Menu appeared
