My thoughts on the Linkcool Wii2HDMI

Howdy guys, this is gonna be a quick one.

So anyone who follows me knows I recently ordered a Wii2HDMI from Amazon by a company called Linkcool for 10$ + Shipping and that I recently recieved in in the mail. So, how did it turn out?
After some testing and exploring of it, the answer is... well, underwhelming.

The adapter is quite obviously cheap, and I find that the internal cables must not be shielded very well because my television seems to be getting a bit of interference noise, especially in 480p mode. It's actually not a huge deal because it's very very subtle and it doesn't happen all the time, but if it continues, or gets any worse, I might look into getting a better adapter in the future.

The adapter doesn't actually upscale, that's very important. It merely converts the signal to a digital one and sends it through HDMI to the TV. That's it. And that's actually fine if you have a TV good at upscaling internally, like I do. It supports all Wii signal output types, which is pretty nice overall.

The verdict is this.
Don't buy one of these, but if you somehow get one, I don't see the harm in using it until you can get a better one.
That's what I plan to do.

Wii HDMI adapters will never truly scale them to HD, I use one when I hook my Wii to my PC monitor, it's not terrible, but if I want true HD for Wii, I just use Dolphin.

@TotalInsanity4 even if it did most issues come from input delay when using component on an HDTV

@the_randomizer I'm aware of that, I actually would prefer my TV do the upscaling since it seems to handle that really well, I just need a good one that has better shielded cables inside I guess, because the one I have has a tiny amount of subtle interference.

Some of the converters upscale to 1080p or 720p and some don't. It almost doesn't matter because the Wii will never output higher than 480p. The good thing about these converters is that they do support 480i and 480p input, whereas a component to VGA converter probably wouldn't support 480i.

This is the one i got for my mom wii, it works well and has surround sound support. (i think) And no problems, It converts signal to 1080P (As the tv detects it) But it does not improve any of the visuals.
It is very cheap as well, less than $10 and no problems at all. Make sure any speakers you plug into the port is volume controlled or it will always be max volume.:)

I recently got the HDMI adapter pictured above for my downstairs projector. While it does upscale, the quality is noticeably worse than using component cables, and that's always going to be the case using HDMI adapters. Instead, I've just decided to just use the vWii on my Wii U, since it looks more normal.

@Sonic Angel Knight Got an Amazon link? All of the adapters out there look like that, pretty much.
If you know the specific one you got, I'd appreciate the link so I can pick it up the next time I get some cash.

here is the link
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00G...ii+to+hdmi&dpPl=1&dpID=31bjNWNBDWL&ref=plSrch

To be honest, i doubt there is any real difference, they all look exactly the same, even some of the people font look the same, just with different name brand and prices (probably cause of the name brand)

The link says best seller for $6.42 and is as generic as boiling water. No name bran, basic hdmi port, stereo port, that it. But yeah, i used that one on my mom wii and it works, detect 1080P signal, no change in quality enhancement. Just what it says, converts signal to run on HD tv, I dunno what i was expecting, But i have wii u so..... :P

To be honest if wii u has homebrew acess and hacks, why would people still use the old wii? Unless is the backward compatible model with the gamecube memory cards and ports, i can understand but the other ones is like "Why, what are you doing, what you doin with this?" Oh well, your stuff.

@Sonic Angel Knight The Wii U's upscaling is kinda ugly, there's many homebrews that don't work with Wii U like Priiloader and a few others, My wii is a launch model so I have GC compatibility, and I personally don't actually own a Wii U.

From what i know the priiloader was never made to function with the wii u, neither was boot mii, since i never confirm it could work on wii u it wasn't a problem of mine. But i can see why you have a wii, i would have one too if it has gamecube compatibility. :)

I actually have one but it doesn't work anymore, it functions normally but it doesn't load, think system menu might be corrupted so... yeah. Actually the homebrew on wii u doesn't look that bad. But compared to the gamepad, it slightly less appealing but not so bad. :ninja:

I can't tell the difference between a vWii on HDMI and a Wii on component. I can definitely tell the difference between a Wii on component and a Wii using an HDMI converter.

Oh wow, new news here, apparently the problem I'm having is actually a defect, and they'll be sending me another one, free of charge. How nice of them! Hope the new one has no such issue.

I just use Dolphin with 4x MSAA, 16x anostrophic filtering and 1366x768 resolution. A lot easier for recording, better looking, and can do other stuff on your computer in between matches/races or whatever.

MSAA is (something something) Antialiasing, which means that visible pixels are smoothed (4x is the highest setting it goes to). Anisotropic (mispelling) filtering is basically mipmapping, if I understand it correctly. So basically textures are loaded more efficiently and look better as a result. 16x is the highest that particular setting goes to

Also I'm jelly that you have a PC capable of that
