My Creative Zen arrived!

Yeah. It arrived. It's a 4GB one btw. (I'm going to put in a 4GB SD card so I have a 8GB Player. :D)
The Box states it should be charged for 4 Hours before first use , but I know myself , I'm probably going to try it out in some hours. (maybe two... :yaypsp: :blink: )

Now I just need to get used to everything , like Videos and stuff. It's a great change from my old iPod Nano 2Gen but I'm probably going to love the Zen more than I loved my iPod. It has just everything I want. (Music, Videos , CustomBackground and other little things.) I hope the Zen can view the cover art of the albums ,but if not I don't care. I won't miss them too much I think. :D

Dear god no. I actually call it the Microsoft Music Brick now...

I got one from Club Live on the weekend of NUKE (20 min of running a program got you a free Zune). It worked great and I loved it, until my laptop broke (screen issues). Then, I recently got a old-but-new-to-me laptop that I wanted to put Linux on. I installed Xubuntu, which I have now found is a brilliant operating system. Given that the HDD in the laptop is only 20GB, I decided not to dual-boot with Windows XP, and that's where the trouble began.

Now for a little background story: Microsoft once made a standard for MP3 players and how they should communicate with computers. That protocol was called Media Transfer Protocol, and is used by a number of players such as Zens. This (open) protocol works great in Linux, as there is a library (libmtp) and a filesystem (mtpfs) that work with these devices. In a very Microsoft-ish move, Microsoft decided not to use this near-universal standard when creating their own music player, the Zune. They added a few proprietary extensions to the protocol, the most prominent of which was an encrypted handshake, and rebranded it "MTPZ".

Of course, Linux doesn't support MTPZ because it isn't an open standard. All you can do in Linux is view the files on the Zune, not download any new ones. My laptop is also too resource-limited to run VMware, the only known way to synchronize a Zune under a non-Windows operating system. Fuck you, Microsoft. Fuck you.

Personally, I would have gotten a 605 WiFi - the web browser is getting an update for flash 9 the week after next, and it will be the only PMP with it - but grats
