My best friend apparently hates me

He just hates them in general, not specifically you. If you tell him, maybe he'll think differently about gay/bi people in general or you specifically.

Tell him to look at a calendar, 1980 passed by a long time ago.

Either that or his mental growth is a little slow and he's stuck in the "I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THEREFORE I FEAR AND HIDE FEAR WITH ANGER" mindset of little kids.

hate is a word spread around without meaning these days.

Pretty much this. People do it all the time. My friend told me he hates dorks who spend too much time around computers and then proceeded with the typical "Not you, you're different" line. He probably just hates the stereotypical gays that he sees but doesn't actually personally know. It's not that bad.

Probally not you, just Gay/Bi community in general

He was the first person I told. I told him back in August, and he didn't really care or say anything about it.

I see. So you told him a while back and now he says he hates gay/bi people... Essentially meaning you fall under that category.

I would say just ask him about it the next time you get the chance. It sucks to sit and self-loathe (you have nothing to be ashamed of, don't feel bad about who you are) and try to figure out why he said what he did.

Obviously if you two are best friends he does not hate you.

I think with a little talking you could figure this out.
