I think I might have lied about posting a blog entry "tomorrow" on my previous entry (it's definitely been more than a year now), but I decided to post an entry because I'm bored. So, basically, my New 2DS XL is done. The screens are now broken in halves, the ribbon cable has been ripped, and there's permanent damage done to one of the hinges, as well.
It started off with just one loose hinge. The displays worked fine, the games worked fine, everything worked fine at the moment. However, I noticed it was getting looser and looser. Eventually, the one hinge broke off of the bottom screen, but the ribbon cable was still intact. The hinge could be snapped back into place without a problem, and everything still worked okay.
However, when I tried to turn my 2DS on later, the bottom screen lit up for a brief second, the speakers made a POP sound, and the system powered off. Okay, maybe that's a bit of an issue there. I tried turning it on a few more times, but it yielded the same result on each attempt. I knew the issue was probably with the ribbon cable, so I unsnapped the hinge and tried to see what was wrong.
Obviously that was a bad idea, because I ended up pulling too hard and I ripped the cable. I knew my 2DS was a goner from that point forward. There was no sense in sending it to Nintendo for a repair since it had CFW, so even if they were (by some miracle) able to fix my merdé 2DS, they would probably detect the "unauthorized hardware modifications" and ban me from online play.
I know some people would advise me to fix it myself, but I'm probably the least trustworthy guy anyone could have to handle the repair of a Nintendo 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2DS itself attempted to fix my small brain, instead. Although I doubt it's needed for this issue, if I had to solder something together, oh boy, I would make sure to call the fire department before I started.
Anyway, it's all good now. I bought a used New 3DS XL from a local used-game store, and apparently it already had Luma CFW installed on the NAND, so that's a pleasant surprise. I will take necessary precautions and be careful in the near future to not forcibly break my screens in half again.
