MapleStory

I know this game gets a lot of hate, presumably for the terribly greedy cash shop system Nexon uses, but overlooking that, I'm having a blast with the game. The combat is actually fun, and the game's a lot less grindy than I remember it being a couple of years ago. I literally can't remember the last time I had this much fun with an MMO. So I was wondering if anyone else plays MapleStory, on the Zenith server. My character's a level 38 (right now, but I've been gaining levels fast) Gunslinger, named Valreux.

I really don't even know why I wrote this blog. I guess I just needed a way to kill time as I ride the ship from Ludibrium.

There was a massive overhaul to the game that made it much easier to level.

That made EXP retardedly easy to get.
I played for a month and got to lv25ish a few years back.
Started again after Big Bang and got to 80+ on nearly 3 characters in time for the Bandana event on one of the new worlds.
I got screwed over because they have shit support for Windows 7, I couldn't log in for the first 4 days or so and missed out on getting a high level ring in the first two weeks of Big Bang.
You should use something like a 360 controller to play the game. It's glorious.
I have a Logitech USB gamepad that's supported by it, and I just might try it. I can assign my other hotkeys besides basic jump, attack, etc. to it, right? As a Gunslinger I literally never use my regular attack, so it'll be useless if I can't assign two special attacks and two types of potions to the controller.

As every single class, you should never use your normal attack.
Normal attack is for beginners.

Also i'd like your definition of a greedy cash shop, considering the most OP thing they sell is an all stats+1 ring.
Otherwise it's just shit to beautify and make yourself stand out, inventory enlargement pills, and warp stones.
As opposed to something like Fiesta online which, as I recall, had an item that will seriously give you +30% max HP.

Doesn't their cash shop have this thing where all the gear items you buy have an expiration date, and even though you paid real cash for them, they disappear after a set amount of time? Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I could've sworn it was something like that.

greedy =/= OP
And it IS both greedy and OP.

Without Gatchapon and vending, you're not going to be able to get too far in the game.
Sure you'll be able to level and get a bit of money, but you'll pretty much be excluded from higher tier gear and scrolling your equipment.
Also, there's a set of armor that you can make from Boosters (gatchapon only item) when completed gives you insane stats.

For the most part, Yeah.
New items you can buy permanently, but after 2 weeks(?) the items become 90 days in the shop.

All the COSTUME items you buy expire after something like 3 or 6 months.
and a full costume is pretty much dirt cheap in the grand scheme of things. It's not greedy to do that. Maplestory exists to make Nexon money. If it didn't do that, it wouldn't exist. So the fact that they can provide a cash shop that has very little impact on the actual game, then they're doing a good job.

The only stupid thing they ever provide are meso bags in the cash shop, which warps and floods the market with billions of mesos as rich kids buy thousands of real dollars worth of mesos.

EDIT: if you need gachapon to play the game, you're doing it wrong. Ditto for vending stalls. It's easy to vend without a stall.

The cash shop is sort of OP. Clothes last 90 days normally but all new ones last forever if you buy within the first 2 weeks.
Gachapon can make you tons of cash and get good gear but I don't use and I have a 107 outlaw with some nice gear.
I get my scrolls from drops and sell them to get cash for the ones I need. Sometimes I also hunt for scrolls.
Buying Nexon makes the game much easier but isn't required.

That's not cheap for a "free" game.

Uh, not entirely sure. I use a program called joy2key and I can just set my buttons to any keyboard key I would press. So I could assign it to anything I wanted.

Every MMO in existence can be easier if you spend money on it.
A smart cookie buys mesos from gold sellers instead of wasting their time like a moron using gachapon.

Making things easier =/= OP.
Greedy cash shops almost always sell OP stuff, because it sells like hotcakes. Nexon has a very valid cash shop

Costumes are cheap unless you're a child, or homeless.
I got a very nice costume set (not a REAL set, I made my own) and it cost me $25. That's not very much, at all. Especially every 3 months. That's just absolutely nothing.

As for selling shit, you're probably a moron who goes into channel 1 to merch and it surprised by how hard it is in the noob flood. Derp derp. Forums exist for a reason. Basil market exists for a reason. Freakin' learn about them.

Anyone that quit has a level 75 priest or higher in Bellocan, that I can borrow/have?
