Major site update in progress

Loads of updates for my game/animation idea, Empire of Steel.

For starters, the title has changed to Stahl Reich. Doesn't sound quite as lame/cliched

everything else that's changed can be viewed at the main page of my website.

I'm trying to change the site name from empireofsteel to stahlreich, but for some reason webs isn't letting me :P

Time to find a new site builder and/or host. I'm in a web design course this semester, so I hope to make it so my site isn't so limited and amateurish as well as implement all of the changes I've made to my project over the summer.

I liked the name Empire of Steel. :c

Stahl Reich (Steel Empire in German for those who couldn't figure it out) sounds too fancy and sort of cheesy. It's hard to explain what I mean by that, so I guess I'll just say I don't like the name that much.

But anyway, I thought EoS, or should I said SR now, died off. Glad to see it didn't.

Really? I've talked to a few of my friends, and they say EoS sounds too cliche/overused. Also, I found that there are two games out there called Empire of Steel: One is a crappy turn based strategy made by students somewhere, and the other is a sidescrolling shooter on the Sega Mega Drive.

And believe me, this is FAR from dead. I have ideas for two... maybe three... games total, but EoS/SR has been number one on my list since I decided I wanted to be a game designer. I took all summer to refine some ideas, polish up some sketches, and learn some new skills.

...which in turn made me completely forget about updating my site.

Actually, as a native speaker of German, I have to mention that "Stahl Reich" is no proper German. If you wanted that, you would have to write it as one word - "Stahlreich". Although that could also mean rich in steel, were it not capitalized. Then again, who cares about getting languages right.

it probably got blocked because of the word "reich" which refers to the "3rd reich", the reign of nazi's over germany back in teh WW2 days...

Stahlreich wouldn't be understood as Empire of Steel.

Rather as "A lot of Steel".

I've no idea how to express Emire of Steel.

But we really don't use the word "Reich".

@ Darth and Fat: So Reich or -reich wouldn't necessarily mean Empire? Are there any other words you could suggest?

The Stahl Reich becomes its own race further into the series, and its people begin calling themselves "Stahl", so I'd like to keep Stahl in the title....

I have a German title because it's a rather intimidating-sounding language.

@ Costello: It actually seems to be a bug. No matter what I try Webs refuses to change it, and it seems I'm not the only one with this problem. :hateit:

Yep, reich can also be an adjective meaning rich or plentiful. Perhaps Stahl-Reich would do, although if we go by precedent, we would have Frankreich (German for france, it literally means "Empire of the Franks", not "contains many guys named Frank").

And "Reich" by itself usually refers to the 2nd German Empire as well, which was ruled by the king of Prussia (who was simultaneously German emperor) and lasted from 1871 to the end of World War I.

Small update: ALMOST DONE!

I was expecting to have this done last week, but I have a valid excuse that I'm sure most here will understand: Minecraft. 'Nuff said.

Anyway, just a little more polishing and I think I'll post the new link. I decided to start over from scratch!

Some things will still need to be updated, like captions. I seem to be missing a few of my sketches, as well.

Right now the priority is polishing the design, however. Then I need to find a scanner and upload better resolutions of my sketches...

To show you I haven't been completely slacking, here's a preview:
