Life isn't fair

My wife turned 24 this past Sunday. She was born with a condition called PKU. Basically she can't eat protein. We had her yearly checkup on Wednesday. They do a bunch of tests and take blood. After we got home, the blood doctor told us to go to the ER. my wife's blood sugar was over 500. She is now diagnosed with diabetes.

Well. We got the final word yesterday. Its Type 1, where your pancreas packs up and shuts down.

...this epically sucks, I would know how much, since both my grandma and my mom, plus one of my aunts has diabetes. I sincerely hope you find a silver lining on this storm cloud.

Can't you just have it removed? Don't need the pancreas in the human body aparently?

Sorry, life isn't that fair.

I have DID and Chronic Insomnia, my wife has Hypermobility and will be lucky to walk when she's 35. My oldest daughter is allergic to nearly every food group and my middle daughter has ASD.

Keep supporting each other, and enjoy what you have. If you let life get you down, your life will suck.

So here's a weird silver lining. Since the diabetes struck, Leah has started doubling down on her PKU meds and checking her blood levels regularly. Her protein tolerance has doubled meaning she can have 60 grams of protein a day, which, while still low, its a huge step forward for her. And according to her mother, she's found one other PKU/Diabetic. She says that the same exact thing happened to her, she was able to double her protein. So the good :)
