The difference between them and I is that I'm gay if gay marriage doesn't exist I can't marry. It doesn't do shit to them.

The point of a theoretical is that you don't need a whole backstory behind it. The point is to put you in someone else's shoes and see if you'd make the same decision. The reason the economy stinks doesn't matter, the point is that one candidate is in the same moral boats as you but is hurting you economically while the other one is on a completely different boat than you but can save you economically.

Fine, new scenario. You're on the planet Theoretica. You live in the country Hypothetica. On Hypothetica, there's a severe economic downturn. Why? There just is, the president there is a baboon when it comes to managing the economy, but he won because he supported (and consequently passed) popular social bills like allowing gays to serve openly in the military, gay marriage, abortion, and hell, public nudity to. But the economy is still shit and it's because of him. No ifs, ands, or buts. A new candidate comes forth to the election. He says he'll abolish all these social bills because he wants to but his plan for fixing the economy will 100% work. No ifs, ands, or buts. Under his presidency, you'll go from being impoverished to being in a much better economic situation.

No it is for my economic well being because I'm married, I'm on my husbands insurance plan and we pay lower taxes because we're married and have 2 daughters. Plus under the new president more women would die because they couldn't get an abortion and used a coat hanger or went to an unlicensed person.

You also said you'd vote for the current president because you "like" being married not because you "need" to be married for financial security. You voted for him for moral reasons, not for economic reasons.

Nope, I can like being married too. My parents need to be married they hate each other. I'll never use the word "need" when I describe my future/hopeful marriage.

My parents need to stay married at the moment, but they're not together any more. Because my dad is gay. But they stay married because they both benefit from it and they need these benefits to keep their houses and children financially stable. They're both now in long term relationships with people they love. My dad lives with his significant other now. And both their significant others know the situation and are fine with it.

Let's rewrite the situation here and say that your marriage has nothing to do with why your so shit financially and under this new candidate you'll be in a better financial state without marriage than you ever were with it.

Nope, because under this situation I wouldn't be married. And it would basically be discrimination. That is like telling a racial minority(Black, Asian, Hispanic), under this new president you'll be better financially but you're marriage doesn't count. If you serve in the military you get no benefits. They would all say no because it improves their life. Marriage improves people's lives, stopping it doesn't. That's the difference. I'm saying that a bunch of new economic crap would be put in place that would effectively make your new situation without marriage to be financially better than the old one when you were married. These new economic policies/crap would have nothing to do with not being married, you'd just be better.

The situation is that if you vote for the candidate who opposes your moral views you'll be better economically (not matter what) but if you vote for the candidate who supports your moral views you'll be in a worse financial position (no matter what).

Stop beating around the bush (again) and answer the question. Would you compromise your morals for your financial well being or would you not?

Gay marriage is part of the compromise. And don't put the "BUT MARRIAGE MAKES ME FINANCIALLY SECURE" since we've taken that out of the equation. We're talking marriage purely as a joining between two people who love each other and want to bring their relationship to the next stage, not as a joint economic union.
