Just rebuilt my PC with twice the RAM and a new case.

My girlfriend was buying parts for me to build her a new gaming PC, and she was kind enough to give me a case and more RAM as a 'thank you'. So here's my new gaming PC, fleshed out in RGB. I also added a USB 3.0 hub on the back, since the case window faces me and ports on the front and back are sparse.

Special thanks to @shaunj66 for the free Tempy magnet!

The case is the NZXT H510. Plenty of room for radiators if water cooling is your thing. I'm an air-cooled person though. The white noise helps drown out my tinnitus. :yayswitch:

They even have a variant of this case for vertical video card mounting.

Ok, here's the specs:

Case: NZXT H510 (the cheap one)
CPU: Ryzen 7 3800X at stock speeds, but always set to turbo mode.
Graphics: GeForce 1060 6GB by MSI
Ram: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16, with a slight overclock to 3666 at stock 1.35 voltage, stable.
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Z PCIe card (red)
Storage:
500GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe
1TB SanDisk NVMe in a USB enclosure
500GB Samsung 840 SATA SSD
256 GB Crucial SSD (strictly for MediCat development)
1TB 2.5" 7200RPM WD laptop harddrive for pirated rom storage
Keyboard: G.Skill RGB mechanical keyboard
Mouse: Razer Atheris wireless mouse
Monitor: Just a cheap 4K TV 43" with HDR I got from Walmart.

I'll be upgrading to an 8GB RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 when they become a little more matured (and in stock).

Oh, and an MSI MPG Gaming Plus x570 motherboard, the one without Wi-Fi. (I'm wired Ethernet)

Yeah tinnitus sucks, i got it from DJing. Think of a constant high pitch "oooooooooooo" or "eeeeeeeeeeeeee" in your ear. When it's quiet that's all you hear!
But loving that case man and the led's on the fan is gorgeous!

I first got tinnitus when my left eardrum exploded on a plane trip to Disney Land in 1994, and it just never went away. I still have about 95% of my hearing though, it's just a constant, loud high-frequency whine like a CRT turning on. I wish I could identify the exact frequency, and maybe turn to some kind of noise-cancelling therapy.

Scott I know, I no longer have a BD-reader/DVD burner combo drive with LightScribe, and I feel naked. Trying to find a 5.25" USB 3.0 drive enclosure these days is a nightmare. I have a USB 2.0 one, but that means my burns can't ever go above 4x or 6x, I forget.

@Scott Pilgrim, do they not have the removable panels anymore?

@Jayro, ouch man, i felt that when I read it! Regarding frequencies, there are certain ones i simply cannot hear anymore. Never thought of the therapy option.
Man I want sweet led's round my fan!! I had a little 4 light led on my external side fan but when the fan got too loud i disconnected them. My pc case is ten years old now so maybe its time to upgrade lol You have inspired me now!

@Jayro With those specs, you could benefit from a 3080. I want one myself, but I built a new rig with a 2080 Super just 7 months ago, I've decided it's more than good enough for a while longer. My rig is similar to yours but I went with a Ryzen 7 3700X, and my TridentZ is 3200mhz CL16. I regret getting 3200 mhz, thought it was enough, but then I saw people recommended 3600 minimum for Ryzen. Even if it's only like 5% performance difference in games, that's one thing that will always hold it back, likely more so if I upgrade to Zen 3 later.
My main SSD is a 500GB 970 Evo Plus, but same thing, just very slightly faster, not that it helps real world usage any. I also have a 2TB Intel 660p for games, and a 2TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD (2.5" because I'm using a SFF case)
Pretty happy with it overall, but Ark still runs like shit (sub-30 FPS near my base), I'm starting to think that there is just no PC powerful enough to run that game properly. If I had a more powerful PC, I'd just build an even bigger base, and have the same problem.

You're going to be impressed when you upgrade your GPU, even the 3700X is very capable paired with a good GPU.

@Scott_pilgrim And do they need optical drive bays? Sure, it might add to a "HTPC" aesthetic, but nowadays, it's more convenient to just use a USB3.0 external drive.

As for the fans in the build, you could go fully silent with air cooling with the Noctua DH-15. I have it in my HTPC inside a Lian-Li case (this one, just with no sidewindow because I didn't feel like dealing with RGB: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/G27p99/lian-li-tu150-mini-itx-desktop-case-tu150wx) and I can't hear it from my where I chill unless if it's in passing by, and even then, I'm listening for it!

Wish I had a Ryzen atm. IDK how a modern Ryzen stacks against an i7-8700k exactly, but outside of some instances where the IPC is better on Intel, it's looking like Ryzen will be more future compatible with games coming out from a multi-threaded processing standpoint...not to mention that Intel hasn't made any effort to fix it losing against AMD atm AFAIK.

I don't see the point of RGB; unless it's set to constant white light, it just looks garish and eye-rollingly bland. Stereotypically "gamer".

The increased RAM and new case are nice, though.

Speaking of meatballs, what's the deal with meatball sandwich? How can people eat those? It's ROUND. Trying to bite those in a sandwich is a challenge. It's easier to eat a burger stacked with toppings. :ninja:
