I was sick for a whole month. COVID-19 worries.

I should start by saying that I'm okay now, but the last month or so was pretty bad for me. I'm just now starting to return to normal. I don't know if it was COVID-19 but I think it's very likely that it was. I'm a very healthy guy, I've been straightedge my whole life, I eat healthy and I've never been sick for this long. I live in the Bay Area, California where it's suspected that it's already widespread. Based on everything I've seen around here, I 100% believe this is true.

It all started a little over a month ago. A few of my family members had been sick and I guess I got it from them. One of them had to be put on an IV for dehydration and another said it was one of the worst flus they've ever had. My sibling's SO also got really sick for several weeks. Likewise, it was in the top 3 worst flus (if it was that) that I've had in my whole life.

Symptoms came on fairly quickly, literally within hours from feeling perfectly okay to feeling like crap. The next day I developed a fever and it was really bad for maybe 3 days. Once the fever broke I developed some kind of bacterial infection in my mouth (dry mouth symptoms), which they said was likely a yeast infection. I was given a mouth rinse for this and it went away after a week. But the entire time I've had consistent chest congestion and a dry cough. A few weeks after the flu "ended", I began to have night chills and a low-grade fever (around 99.5 F) which came and went at random. I saw a doctor twice for this and told them everything. They asked me about COVID-19 related symptoms, etc, but they said they weren't able to test anyone. I was prescribed antibiotics for the persistent congestion and they theorized that it might have been bacterial bronchitis, though they didn't seem to test for that either... On my last visit a few days ago they already seemed a bit stretched compared to my first visit the week before. I've been hearing ambulance sirens more often in recent days as well.

Presently I'm feeling a little better every day. The congestion is a little less every day but I still cough now and then. I've been practicing self-isolation as much as possible and haven't seen my girlfriend in over a month, which has been very hard for me, but I'm putting everyone else ahead of me. I don't understand how selfish some other people can be by going out while sick.

I believe the reason it was so bad for me is that my vitamin D levels were very low. I've read that vitamin D is crucial for respiratory infection recovery. I'm now taking supplements. I advise you all to start taking them too if you can get a hold of them. There was a big study that said it reduces infection rates by 70%.

I plan to wait until testing is available to everyone and get tested ASAP, but most likely it's already out of my system by now. I believe there must be thousands, if not tens of thousands of people in my area who have already slipped under the radar like myself.

I wouldn't stress about it. Younger healthier people can survive it and will come and go like a flu. It's mostly elderly or people with immune system problems that will actually die from it. Just because you have low Vitamin D doesn't mean you would die from it. If it's already been a month I wouldn't worry, if it was a week maybe worry. If something life threatening was going to happen it probably already would have happened. I think you're fine. I'm not an expert though of course just my opinion about what I've read about it.

My guess is because of amount of time that's past it might be impossible to know if you had coronavirus or something else.

I take 5,000 UI Vitamin D a day and I've been tanning in the sun. While I'm aware of skin cancer I think the sun is very important to our health.

I've read that South Korea is working on antibody testing, which would let doctors see if anyone was infected even after recovering. I think this is probably my only chance to know for sure now.

I'm not worried about my health now, I mostly just worry if I'm still contagious. I've been wearing a mask and gloves when I go out (only going out when I absolutely have to though) and using a clean wash cloth to open doors and turn on lights, but otherwise keeping to myself. I think that anyone who's even remotely sick should be doing the same right now. Seriously, a little alone time isn't going to kill anyone. Read a book, play some games!

I've been doing lots of gaming lately without stressing about "more important things". It's been kind of nice actually.

Yeah like my grandma is 91 and in the hospital, and while I feel fine you can feel fine and have it and not even have any symptoms or know. So I've been hesitant to even visit her.

Hanging there bro, Italy here and i live in one of ''red quarantined zone'', there's a COVID-19 test which you can take to make sure you are one of positive or not, for now wear mask and have ur family to do the same.
It's just too bad that such test costs 2500 in Murica, meanwhile Health system in EU is FREE.

The sick time we have is ridiculous and when we run out of sick time, we won’t get paid to work. Some people need to get paid. I totally agree, though, you should stay home if you are sick. Some can’t afford to be sick. It’s a stupid health system and needs to change.

Dont' blame others, this virus is asimtomatic, that means for 1st 2 weeks you won't show any symtoms but still able to spread desease, mostly through air, cough and sneeze.

We've been told here in the US that COVID-19 tests will be paid for by the government, but the problem is there's such limited testing capacity that barely anyone is getting tested. It's been a total failure of the government to prepare.

Even with all of this coming down, I feel optimistic about the future. We'll survive this and people will be different when it ends. Things will get better.

Italy is totally overwhelmed by this situation, but since Italian goverment has good relationship with China: it has joined One Belt One Road program, Italy has asked China for aiding: China has already provided Machinaries and all medical stuffs to Italian hospistals alongside with a squad of highly specialized medics.

Trump could do the same, but it's ridiculous and shameful since he started the Infamous Trade war against China now need them to save american asses lol

I think we all need to realize that this isn't a Chinese or Iranian or Italian or American virus. It's a human virus. We all need to stick together as humans and help each other right now. It upsets me even when people try to make it political. I'm sure we can agree that basically all of our leaders have failed us.

Also, I want to add to my story about getting sick... I was feeling very depressed even before I got sick and I think that must have made it worse. I wasn't taking care of myself. I believe that if I had been taking better care of myself, it wouldn't have been half as bad. So I advise everyone to get a bit of exercise (at home preferably), stop eating junk food, stop smoking, etc. It could make a big difference.

i've never had a fever last long than 48 hours, and i've never had flu symptoms last more than 3-4 days.....except 2 weeks ago i had a fever for 6 straight days, and was still weak as shit for another 3 days afterwards and 1-2 days before. i started getting worried, but when my wife didn't get sick at all, i knew it couldn't be COVID since it's pretty nasty/contagious.

JFizDaWiz not necessarily, the Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert had it and he was being an idiot before he knew he had it and going around touching everything even touching other players like as a joke, and after they found out he had it only one other player tested positive for it on the team and they tested everybody. There seems to be no pattern to who gets it and who doesn't.

I agree that it seems random. Assuming that my family actually had it, not all of us even got sick. It was less than half of the household. I generally keep to myself and was probably least at risk but I still got it, and my parents who are getting older were most at risk but apparently didn't get sick.

And also a lot of people get it without any symptoms, so you never know for sure without being tested.

I was really concerned that I had it too as I had a fever twice and not feeling well for quite a good while despite being a healthy person and i cant even remember the last time when i was unwell especially for good period of time but luckily it wasn't the virus. I was really worried that if I did had it i could've passed it on to other people because i know people who have weak immune systems etc...
But thankfully I'm feeling good now and people close to me are good also.

I live in Italy (Lombardy region) situation is crazy.
Currently (for the last few weeks) visiting family in a different region which maybe is for the best and I'm staying a bit longer now than originally planned. But even where I am at the moment is a complete ghost town. Hardly anyone goes out. Most shops are closed only supermarkets and chemists and even then there are rules for keeping distance and the amount of people are allowed in etc...

And like that is even for an area that is not in the red zone, although a few cases have happened about almost an hour away from where I am at the moment. With a lot of people panicking in the area.
Trying to be as careful as possible which is probably is all that we can do.

Also really concerned about my income this year (work in tourism)
and it is mostly based on guests coming to the properties that I manage. A lot of cancellations all of March part of April and even May at the moment and i expect more cancellations to happen.
From earning 1000's a month to possibly loosing money it is a real difficult situation where I don't know what to do.

I also know people who are English teachers and recently they have had all of their lessons cancelled with schools closing, it is a real concern where they won't get anything unless if they do lessons.

Liked mentioned already in this thread all we can do is be careful and support each other. Even if it is just a bit of chatting or advice in this thread or others, it can go a long way in helping.

Hope everyone stays safe and healthy.
