I may have Tuberculosis

Long story short, grandfather died a few weeks ago because of TB meningitis. Everyone that entered his hospital room got a skin test just to be sure and mine is positive. I don't know whether or not it's a false positive but I currently have pneumonia so it may be that. I am taking meds so I should be fine.

I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you didn't catch it. Be sure to get vaccinated, too - diseases like TB are preventable.

MD here, first, the test that was performed on you is indicative of contact with mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) in any for (A vaccine for example) and is not diagnostic. The disease needs prolongated and intimal contact with a infected person (that's why it is common in health proffesionals), the first tests available its a bacilloscopy (they will search for the bacteria in your lung fluids). ACtually the disease is curable after a long but simple period of antibiotics. tell me if you have any question.

But but vaccines are bad for you! *insert anti vaccine thread here*.

In all serious as I've said before get better soon and we all hope it's a false positive!

Sorry to hear about that, if you were the only one to actually be diagnosed positive then I believe you have high chances of it being a false positive. I hope that becomes the case because I don't want you to have an illness.

Done with tuberculosis 2 years ago. If it is real, just drink your meds and you'll be alright. Take care.
