I may be getting home schooled next year.

Our school just cut all high school busing and preschool and kid have to pay 10 dollars in order to use the bus.

We've been thinking about homeschooling, as the other schools around I can't go to because they won't let me ride the bus as well.

I really don't feel great right now. I've never been home schooled...

Homeschooling is great. You learn at your own pace, and there isn't anyone to bully you. You stay at home all day, and if you need a bit of help, call em or Monkat on Skype. :yay: Its 10 dollars per ride, per person? Damn that's steep.

Yup, that's what the news article said.

All high schoolers will have to find there own way there and Preschool and kid have to pay 10 dollars if they want to use the bus.

I've met some very intelligent people who were homeschooled.
But their social skills always seem to be lacking.

Its true, but then again, I've seen a lot of people in high school with questionable social skills as well.

Yeah, but he's actually been to highschool already I assume so he probably has friends he can still hang out with and all that jazz.
Homeschooling is awesome. Wish I was homeschooled.

I am homeschooled and don't have any social problems at all...of course I do play alot of xbox but that's natural...haha

How long is it between the average house and your schools?

I'd been walking about an hour (riding bike whenever possible, ~20 minutes) every day for over 3 years to my school
Who will homeschool you? Because, if youre not schooled by someone with at least a bit of academic skill, it wont do you any good :/

10$ per ride per day seems wrong though.

I have been homeschooled my entire life. I do not lack in social skills. And I am a GOOD SPELLAR!!!! (pun intended) I think you will love it. If you have any questions about it just ask here or PM me. :) 10 damn dollars is a big sum of money.

He's right. I'm homeschooled, and I can be a total dick sometimes.

I've been homeschooled since 6th grade because the state of Louisiana is like 2nd place or 3rd on the list of "Worst Education in the Country"

I wake up at 9am every morning, watch my (non-live) video lessons from A Beka Academy Online, and I'm finished well before 3pm. I'm gonna get my shit together next year though so I can be ready for a strict college schedule.

The only downside is yeah, I don't have as much of a social life as I'd like to have. But at the same time, when I talk to my friends who are in the public schools, I can tell I'd have been expelled by now anyway. So many people that would've started fights with me and gotten their asses kicked.

who's schooling you anyway?
its weird how everyone assumes homeschooling is equally good for everyone.

Kind of depends who's schooling you I guess. The problem is that you don't learn from or with a wide variety of people, so I imagine it's easy to come out of it with a very narrow viewpoint.

I'd certainly never consider homeschooling my kids. I guess bus costs are a better reason than, say a belief that everything they teach you in school is wrong and you must learn to believe everything your parents believe as fact.

I don't think being homeschooled means being taught everything by your parents. At least, it isn't the case here. When you are homeschooled where I live, an educator comes to see you for a one on one lesson every day.

Damn, where do you live? Round here my school is having money problems too.

well... to be honest, i would believe that one on one tutoring is more expensive than a busticket.

From my house its 6 miles, added to coming back its another 6 so 12 miles there and back.

Also, if I was home schooled I would be sent a computer and books and I would have to do work each day and send it back to them. Then at the end of the year I would have to come back to take the test to get into 10th grade.

Homeschooling was great, I was in private school before, but I didn't like it there, so I left. When I could drive it was great, my friend worked at a gaming place, and he would let me play for free on the 360's and PC's.

Though, I know a lot of home schooled kids, this one family, the kids are horrible at spelling and grammar. I lack social skills, but I never had those in school either.

Another option to homeschooling is watching pre-recorded classes on the internet or on DVDs.

It's a Christian school, I hope that's not a problem.

Basically science classes are taught from a creationist's perspective, not an evolutionist's, and there's 2 semester-long classes that deal with Christianity. I don't know if those classes are optional, but I certainly don't mind.

Even if you're not Christian, the teachers are some of the best in the country. Look at some of the demo videos, taken from real lessons: https://www.abekaacademy.org/AcademicProgra...eo/Default.html

I love the mention of A Beka.
I did it for...three years was it? It was great, but my Mom's such a flippin' procrastinator that I hardly ever got my work graded! :angry2:
If it wasn't for that it probably would've been perfect. >_>

Then I did Switched-On-Schoolhouse for a couple years. That was better because I was able to send my work to teachers over teh interwebz. Unfortunately, our slow internet speed at the time caused several problems on several occasions regarding sending and receiving information.

My favorite home school experience so far has been my current school. iQ Academy. It's actually a public school on the internet. I got a free laptop to use during the duration of my stay with them, and the books were delivered to my grandparents' front door. ^_^
The teachers are pretty awesome.
I got my own @iqwisconsin.com email address which makes communicating with my teachers easier than ever.
Each subject has its own discussion board where students can all talk to each other about the different assignments if they want to. Some smaller assignments have to be posted on the discussion board too.
For every class, there's what's called an Elluminate session each week(it is optional though). This is where students and the teacher get together on a skype-ish program that has a whiteboard, and the teacher will go over the week's lesson while the students ask questions.

Dang, I'm starting to sound like an advertisement. o.o;

Oh, that's right. iQ is only available in California, Kansas, Minnesota, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Nevada. But you don't have to actually live there. ;) We just gave them my grandparents' address in Wisconsin, and then my grandparents ship the stuff to us wherever we are at any given time.

ANYWAY...*cough*...iQ is great. ^_^

Homeschooling is pretty awesome, I mean, who needs social skills anyway? Jokes aside, Homeschooling gives the most free time of any other type. You'll be able to play more video games, draw more drawings, and write more stories! It's pretty great. ^_^

If you work ahead on your school, which isn't too hard in most situations, you can have actual weeks without any schoolwork. O_O And that doesn't even count the normal breaks that are the same as the breaks in regular school.

I would recommend homeschooling for everyone. Because of the social issues though I wouldn't recommend it full time though. I knew someone who did half of their subjects at home in the morning, then did the rest at their public school in the afternoon. It worked out great for her. ^_^

Man, that iQ thing sounds awesome. If only next year wasn't my senior year, I'd so try that out. (Disregarding the fact that it isn't available in Louisiana anyway)
