I hate proprietary chargers!!!!

There I was last night...ready to finally try Mocha CFW on my Wii U after postponing it for nearly 3 years now!!! I always thought that the DS game was required but that seems not to be the case with Mocha. It's just a browser exploit! So even if the Wii U store closes (or is it already?) this mod will still work!:D

Not having used my Wii U for years means things are not within reach off course! The console was easy since it never left the shell above my TV. It's power adapter was in a box with other Wii related stuff and I found it quickly. The GamePad was safely stored in a plastic box that fits nicely around it.....but it's missing a vital item in the box!!!!!! That stupid little Nintendo proprietary gamepad charger is NOWHERE IN SIGHT!!!!! :gun:

It's not like I am a tidy person or anything....things get lost on a daily basis actually :shy:....but I thought all GameCube, Wii and Wii U stuff was in the same box! Apparently it's not!:cry::cry:

I guess it's going to take a bit longer until I can finally start porting my homebrew game to the Wii U.....:ha:

It's not like I have nothing better to do or anything....just wanted to vent my frustration. Sorry :D

EDIT: After learning about the existence of a USB charging cable I thought....why not just hack something together myself! :D
I made a few snapshots of my bad wire management to the charging cradle:

I know how it looks....but it does actually work! :D

Note to self: Clean keyboard before close-up pictures!!! :shy::shy::shy::P

…and if you didn't disconnect the battery it is deep-discharged due to a design flaw (Gamepad always on standby listening if main console turns on).
Those proprietary connectors have to go. This is one thing Nintendo did right on the Switch.

If you have/find the charging cradle you could apply 4.75V DC from a standard variable power adapter with some wires.

I know exactly how that feels: The one thing you need (and know you have) just seems to have disappeared in a black hole for no reason.

Edit (off-topic):
I will try the new Battercheck version on GC/Wii/3DS in the next few days.

yeah......off course I DID NOT disconnect the battery!!! :ohnoes:.....so I might even have a dead one now! Great! That voltage is really close to USB actually....but from what I read on the back of the gamepad it needs to be 1.6A and that might be a little tricky to get over USB.

I did find the cradle and it's standing on the shelf now....waiting to be charged! :D

It has been the same with the PS2 and GameCube until a few weeks ago....all the required cables all over the place! Searching for days...and then finding it in the place you looked the first time! And skipped...because you already look there! Right, hahaha :D

It would be great to hear your feedback for the GC,Wii and 3DS, but they have some issues as I mentioned with the posts. The gameplay should mostly be unaffected by the glitches I think. Either way...take your time. ;)

I am currently trying to figure out WHY the floor collisions are messed up! I have traced back through the code that handles the jumping, falling and ground detection and it just makes NO sense. It should just work....but it does not obviously. When standing on the edge of a platform...and you walk over it just beyond the center of the player sprite....you fall through it slowly. But every bit of code handling it....reports that it's not changing the position!!! So frustrating!!:rofl2:

If only I had unlimited free time to work on this....hahaha! But my time is limited the next couple of days/weeks so it might take a while to figure this thing out. I am sure it's a really stupid thing somewhere that I am missing! Even with the rewrites...collisions are still handled in the wrong place! I really should create a "world object class" that can move. Then a second one to extend it that detects collisions. This would then be the ONLY place to look for bugs in the collision detection!!! :D

What I might do is write a blog post about it over the next few days to clear my head about how it should work! Refer to some sources that explain it...and make a plan! Then slowly replace the "Bad stuff" in the game engine and make it work right! I need the same base classes for the enemy AI so it knows where a platform ends and when to turn around. The enemies are quite stupid actually...played around with them in the original game a couple of days ago. As long as you keep walking...they jump right over you! Every time. Only when you are walking slow or stop...then they catch you! Hahaha:rofl:

I am sure I'll get it fixed....some day. :)

I have a gamepad charger for the computer somewhere (probably in this mess of cables around my computer).

I did find the usb cable. it still charges, just have to plug the usb cable into a charging port instead of a normal usb port or else it won't charge. I've charged it several times when playing kirby or something. no issues with it.

I'll be doing a gamepad battery mod in my Wii U gamepad here real soon, I just need to find the largest lipo battery on eBay or Amazon that will fit within the dimensions. Soldering everything up will be the easy part. Might even add a USB C connector to it for diarrhea and laughter.

Awesome! I had no idea it could be charged over USB already!! It shows how much I have actually used the thing right? Hahaha:rofl2:

I have modded my cradle with wires, crocodile clips, USB-C breakout, magnet cable charger ->>> to Ubiquiti POE USB Charger!! Hahahahaha :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:It's rated for 5V at 2A so well within the specs I think! :P

I connected it all up and with a slight fear of magic smoke....I placed the gamepad on the cradle...and....IT WORKS!! Awseome! :D

@godreborn : Thank you sooo much!!

EDIT: Added some pictures above

I had to buy a 3rd party charger because I couldn't find my gamepad charger but then one day the gamepad charger turned up again. Which is good, because the 3rd party charger doesn't work with the extended gamepad battery for some reason, ever since I swapped out for that it just shows the battery full LED and won't charge. Was a nice charger otherwise, docks the gamepad and 2 wiimotes (batteries included) shame it wouldn't work with the extended battery. That battery is probably shot now anyway because the gamepad discharges in standby so quickly, but eh, I don't really care about the Wii U anymore.

Little update: Charging works great, hahaha. I decided to put the files for the Mocha CFW on the SD card and just try it while the gamepad is still charging. Seems to work great! Dumping the NAND...forgot to select the actual NAND!! Doing that right now ^_^

I did look around a bit in the Homebrew Store and there is not that much interesting on there it seems. Might have to look somewhere else maybe....but I am also new to the Wii U homebrew stuff, hahaa:rofl2:

Also looked around a little for examples on how to create homebrew....it's there but nothing yet that will make this a "quick port". ^_^
