Gurren Lagann, impressions so far

yeah i agree. don't get me wrong, i loved kamina as a character. but the fact that he died so early, and unexpectedly, helped to build up his rep, and the way everyone talks about him, makes him seem more epic. though, the main characters emo phase was annoying, it was decent character development.

also, the best thing about gurren lagann is that it officially beat dragon ball z in terms of epic fights. o woops i was about to spoil it wait till u get to the last eps and you'll see what i mean

Episode 25 - Kittan dies in order to save everyone. Yokos second love was kittan.


Episode 26 - The crew are stuck in fantasy land where they eventually escape.

Episode 27 - Simon comes to Nia's rescue looking as manly as ever.
Huge mechs fight using galaxys as their battleground and eventually Simon wins.
Nia dies at the end and Simon becomes a hobo.

Spoilers really don't matter with an anime that good.
Ya, it does stick aroudn the basics around the begining but what it does is gradully evolve into something good.
Something that makes exciting.
Though I'd suggest watching the US version with a Japanese dub and the fansubbed script, or well, ya, the fansubbed japanese version. It makes more sense and is alot more exciting and funny in its origonal form.

I always hated how they called Simon, See moun.
Simon would have worked just as good said that way.

I realize that's simply your opinion, however, I believe that's quite misinformed. Gainax put a courageous and influential character (Kamina [also can be seen as a mentor]) in so that his death would eventually lead to Simon becoming a more improved hero. It's a process in the "Hero's Journey" that most epic poems, movies (such as Star Wars) and TV shows that help develop the main character. Hell, it was even in Dragonball Evolution when Goku's grandfather dies. No offense or anything, but it seems like you completely missed the purpose of why Kamina was in the show in the first place.

Good timing to watch Gurren Lagann. The DVD of the first movie comes out in 4 days. Hoping subs come out within a week or so.

No, I see the purpose of Kamina. i just didn't like him as a character because of his attitude, but they do show you his other side though. He's not just a "FUCK YOU IM AWESOME" person all the time. For example, in that episode where he tells Yoko the story of when Simon and him were stuck underground and he acted all confident to give Simon a morale boost.

About the movies... aren't they just the episodes in movie form? It's not a different story or anything? If so, I'm gonna skip those. I've got a ton of other anime to watch, I don't wanna go through GL again even if it was awesome. Not right now, anyway.

I think I will be watching Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei and Higurashi now.

Ah, my bad. Just for future reference, the type of character Kamina is can be classified as "hotblood."

There are going to be two movies; the first movie covers the first arc (with a few alterations in the story here and there, as well as even more wonderful art) and the second movie covers the second arc. Not too much is known about the second movie, however.

Sounds good. Isn't the first one out already?

The first movie came out quite a while ago in theatres, but the DVD version should be out on the 22nd. If the raw has leaked, means subs will come out faster.

I haven't re-watched GL in a while, so the movie would be a nice refresher.

DVDs came out in Japan today, just letting you all know. A massive 6.27GB ISO, at that.
