GBAtemp: A retrospective

So, I'm almost to my thousandth post, meaning I'll be getting a my FIRST red ribbon. I know, I know, you're all so proud. Although it is kinda sad I've had so many posts since I joined in like April... Anyway, with all the inners and outers of GBAtemp figured out, I thought I'd offer my insight.

The community here is a mixed bag. It's an odd combination of some of the smartest people on the intertubes and some of the dumbest people I've ever seen. The smart people, usually those in the higher post range (like 5 green ribbons or higher). This also includes pretty much the entire moderator staff, since they're obviously smart enough to get to that rank. On the other hand, we've got the dumb dumbs, as I affectionally call them. They're stupid, very stupid. They seem to combine selfishness, sloppiness, arrogance, ignorance, and as I've mentioned, before, stupidity. They'll go ahead asking stupid questions that have already been answered, ask for ROMs or the like, or just go ahead assuming things they don't. It's numbingly annoying. It gives me the anger I'm so beloved for. Honestly, I really think there should just be some type of test you have to take to see if you're actually smart enough to enter the Temp.

After we divide those, there's some other distinct social groups. We've got the weaboos, something I do hate. It's not like I have anything against Japan or Japanese product, but it's just weaboos in general. They seem so Japan-set that anything that is marked with flashy anime characters will automatically give them a boner. I mean, I hate anime, but that's an opinion. Weaboos just push it way too far. Outside of them, there's people like me who couldn't care less about anime and are just interested in other things.

As for some of the bigger Tempers, here's what I know: Hadrian is old, Toni is Croatian, p1ngy wears glasses. Not much else. I know there's other staff members who are pretty big, but they usually don't hang around where I go to look.

So, I've found there's many things that drive me insane on this site and get my blood pumping. Prime examples of human stupidity, arrogance, and selfishness are just a few. But still, it's so damn addicting I can't stop. I guess that's not a bad thing, I need something to do while Heroes buffers online.

Expect to see me reach the 1,000 post mark soon, and expect me for at least a 1,000 more. Hopefully I'll actually be noticable some time as "Hey, it's Guild" instead of "Hey, it's that douchebag with the long post".

I'm also mindlessly spamming to get my post count to 1,000 :creep:

I just don't like anime either. I don't mind if someone likes anime, but when they get to the point where the obsess about it and have no life outside of anime, that's when I hate it. I just find the whole concept in general to be weak.[/quote]

i also tend to be on gbatemp very active at tome but sometime just scaning the fourum for data to help others be you can call me the gba temp whore

i joined GBAtemp in april but i was just a lurker i didnt even make my first post til this month...since i had my knee surgery i post a lot to kill time lol

1000 posts....I really need to start posting more!
Curse you banned game, taking all my posts.

This doesn't seem so much like a retrospective as it does a rant on how much you dislike "weaboos".

You could be a little less judgemental of other people, it's not going to kill you. I'm sure there are plenty of things you do that upset other people online/IRL , but people tend to not point all the little flaws of other people as it would lead to them not having any friends

I feel like posting here after reading your really honest comments on some people here.

I've been here on GBAtemp for a loooong while (since 03), and I've seen people come and go. I still see Costello post once in a while, but I rarely see Shaunj66, or the greatly missed Thug4L1f3. Ace Gunman's been here for a while, and he's cool.... and lot of new people have been getting their post count up lately. Bunch of cool people, bunch of jackasses.

We don't all post everyday either. I've got little over 400 posts, but probably all of them are helpful comments, constructive opinions, or inquiries about, well, pretty much anything. I like GBAtemp for its crowd...people are (usually) nice and have a skillset that a single person simply cannot possess.

I love GBAtemp.

Aaaanyways, on the topic of Weeaboos! I tend to dislike them, but they tend to dislike me a little more. You see, I live a dream most of them would love to live. I'm a gamer (a pure gamer.), in fact, I decided to learn Japanese simply to be able to play more games. Spent most of my High School years doing so. Couple of years later, partying with some pals (after breaking up with an ex-girlfriend), meet a really cute Japanese girl, and we hit it off. Today we're married (happily at that), I speak really great Japanese, play a bunch of foreign games, and yet I really tend to avoid anime / manga. My wife's got us hooked on some Japanese TV shows, but I always forget the actors names (heck, even the character's names sometimes)...

I agree that a lot of people jump on the "HEY IMMA LEARN JAPANESE MAYBI TRANSLAT POKEMON OR SUMTHIN" boat without thinking that it could be one of the longest and harshest things they might learn. But then again, a lot of these people are young. We're not all married adults. Some of these guys are 11-15, and if they think they can learn something new, we can try to help them. 99% of them might call it quits to pick up skateboarding or something, but that 1% is going to be glad you helped em out.

For every 7000 retards, you'll get one or two people you might remember the name/avatar/signature of and think of that person as someone makin' a difference on GBAtemp.

From now on, sir, I consider you one of those people.

The thing you were asking me about in irc. Responses like this are probably one of the reasons why.

Speaking of meatballs, what's the deal with meatball sandwich? How can people eat those? It's ROUND. Trying to bite those in a sandwich is a challenge. It's easier to eat a burger stacked with toppings. :ninja:
