Gaming ADD...

I have gaming ADD. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a long time flashcart user - with the first one that I got was the gba ones with "Little Writer" on them. I never finished a single game on the gba - although I got close to finishing Tales of Phantasia; and then my flashcart officially died. No resoldering a battery could coax it back to life - the memory chips on there were fucked - it won't hold a new rom or even a new save game.

However, I digress. This is more about the fact that I have no reason to finish games with a flashcart. I could remove saves at will, but I never really got back into finishing any games. Case in point. I bought a copy of Scrunge Hive for the gba after playing it on flashcart material. It was a great game, very exploration based - however, I never finished it on my flashcart. As soon as I got the retail copy - I finished it. The same with Rhapsody on the DS lite.

I find myself starting a lot of RPG's on the DS. It gets so bad that I find myself forgetting story, and then having to restart the game in order to get it finished. Case in point - YS 1 and 2. I started the game in 2008 (or whenever it was first dumped), and just started playing again in 2010. I completely forgot the plot/point of the game, and promptly deleted it off my flashcart. I'm afraid that Sands of Destruction will have the same problem as well.

The only rpg's I've finished on the ds are Pokemon, FF3, and FF: Echoes of Time. It's disgusting, and I've got to find motivation to actually finish a game without it seeming like a chore or a neccessity.

Do you have gaming ADD? Do you change games frequently, or do you like to finish one game completely before playing another one? Tell me more...

Tis the plight of the pirate. I have found that a solution for me is to only allow one long-term game on my flash cart at once, so I know I will finish it.

I've had a bad case of gaming ADD since I quit MMOs altogether in mid 2009. (It's the main reason I left temp in the first place)

As such, I've slowly been trying to finish the games I started and never finished. They're usually RPGs, but with those it's either it grabs my interest within the first hour or I end up skipping forward to find something better to play. Continuing to dig that hole deeper and deeper.

I also think a main reason for the gaming ADD is, of course, being able to play practically any game at any moment we want. With such ease to get a game, but very little consequence, to stopping because it's boring. Usually, if you bought a game, you tend to have that "sense of duty" to play/finish the game because you want to get your moneys worth.

But yeah, the games I really want to finish are:
  • [360] Tales of Vesperia (I swear, I have no idea why I never "beat" it)
  • [360] Grand Theft Auto IV
  • [360] Lost Planet
  • [PSP] Persona
  • [DS] Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
  • [PC] Bioshock
Among others that I'm pretty sure I forgot.

Ironically, I got MW2 in the midst of trying to play through all of these and I went through it's Single-Player twice already. xD

Slowly but surely, I guess. Man, too many games are going to start coming out again. Gah.

I know your pain. I didn't finish Pokemon Diamond (I feel it's finished when I have caught all the Pokemon) and I ended up buying Platinum. I opened it, and played through the 2nd gym. Still haven't finished it, although I'd be happy when Heartgold comes out - as I'm looking forward to the Pokewalker and playing through Gold again. (Shouldn't have sold it, although - Gold, I mean.)

Oh man, Pokemon games are pretty rough too. I finished Diamond in JP and ENG back when they first got released and I had bought them all excited and stuff. I got Platinum too since, well it's Pokemon, I too only got to the 2nd Gym then just let my brother finish the rest.

The thing about my brother is very strange. He's young (10) but he's managed to "beat" Pokemon Pearl 2 times, Platinum 1 time, and both Explorers of Time/Darkness (he's still playing them too). I kinda wish I still had that straightforward gaming mindset of children. Playing through a game even if it was extremely tedious.

I swear, him and I could start HG/SS at the same time and he'll probably have beaten Red 2 times over by the time I hit the E4 the first time.

Yeah, Pokemon's a special case. I love Pokemon, and I'd probably be more interested in the Pokewalker than the actual game. (Yes, an excuse to exercise - I love it.) I'm excited to fight Red in the final confrontation, but I know I'd have a lot of fun - about 16 badges to work through and more Pokemon to beat.

However, I feel bad that my Platinum game remains untouched even now. I guess because I was playing the english rom and I just killed the last gym member and then my memory stick had a corruption - I had to purchase a new stick and I never got into playing it again. *sigh*

good old pirate blues. you're being spoilt for choice. its pretty hard to tear away from. from time to time i finish every game im playing, others i dont even get 2-3 hours in before looking for another game. like right now, i've just piled on the plate Muramasa, Little kings story, Fatal Frame IV, Tatsunoko vs capcom and Silent hill: shattered memories, intent on finishing all of them. but not too long ago when MW2 came out, i had Gears of War, ODST, Red Faction Guerilla, Borderlands, RE5 and MW2 to finish, i only ever got into the first 2 hours or so of GoW, 1 hour in ODST, about 1/2 hour in RFG, about 1 hour in RE5. i only finished Borderlands and MW2. Right now i have no motivation to go back and play any of those games. i dont think i'll get any urge to play them in the future either.

lol make a backlog like i did :D

It helped me finish a few games/keep track of em :)

www.backloggery.com

I wonder if this counts as advertising -.-

I had a Backloggery, but, usually I'm not near a computer to update it regularly and stuffs. :x

That reminds me of when I was playing Skies of Arcadia. I got side tracked with another game and completely forgot about it for about 2 years. When I finally decided to play it again I had absolutely no idea on where I was supposed to go...I got frustrated and got rid of the game. I haven't beaten a lot of games, mostly Final Fantasy...I'll start them and then get bored near the end or something will happen (my Playstation broke).

I usually finish every game I start, but I rarely finish RPG's. Like Sands of Destruction, i'm about 2 hours in but I doubt i'll play it again and I haven't even tried Glory or Hercales yet.

Yeah, I just saw the review for Glory of Heracles, and it looks amazing. But I still have to finish Nostoglia and Sands.

It's funny, because my friend, who is a very casual gamer (the most hardcore thing I've introduced her to is Might and Magic Clash of Heroes) - she doesn't have this problem. She managed to finish Lego Rock Band in a few sessions, and she still goes back to it for fun.

I even get bored of store bought games. I have only finshed one of my 7 xbawk games. I'm trying to get all achievements on Oblivion while playing Bayonetta, The Last Remnant and Star Ocean: TLH. Sometimes I just turn it on going to play a game then think fuck it and turn it back off.
Then I got my NDS, I started Kingdom Hearts again (this time I'm on hard). Then I have my PSP with Silent Hill and Assassins Creed (even how short the game is)
Probs going off-topic now, but yeah, it sucks.

/me makes a vow to end pirate's syndrome

I've been doing well lately. Only been playing 2 games, Half-Minute Hero and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
I started Half-Minute Hero first but..
I've played a lot more Castlevania so I'll beat that one first.

I actually haven't been doing it so much when it comes to handheld games.
I haven't done much on my Wii but I only had it modded for 3 weeks, I'll finish the games I have when I can play it again. (Wiimote died)

I have barely finished any of my games. The first game I ever got (Jet Force Gemini for the N64) I have still not beat. I love short games though cuz I actually beat them. Stuff like the new Prince of Persia, Silent Hill: SM, Call of Duty. I can't play RPGs EVER! Though I swore I'd beat Devil Survivor, which I still plan on doing! But it's generally ok, since I have a brother, and he usually beats games, so I just watch from the point I quit the game till the end.

Never have I related to this.

Honestly, if I ever play a game I like, I finish it. Otherwise, DELETED.
Professor Layton? Done.
Every Kindgdom Hearts game I've ever played? Done.
All dem Final Fantasy games? Story completed.

I don't understand why at all one would download a game, play it, and either finish it or not delete it.

The only exception being keeping it for collection purposes. But even that's questionably stupid.

I very much dislike New Horizons that's for sure, I got it on release day, and I always disliked it, but I didn't expect that it would end up actually being universally bad and disliked.

New Leaf was my first Animal Crossing game, and I spent so many years with it, it's a very important part of my past, so many great memories, it's just such a great game, it is my favorite of all time, and probably the game I spent the most time on, too.
