So last Friday 15 of us from our school got to go to some 'Young Game Designers' BAFTA workshop as we entered a competition to make our own game. And as it happened this workshop was hosted at the Eurogamer Expo in London!
The workshop was pretty cool but very predictable, you know usual 'unique selling points' etc. (One think I did learn though was that Nintendo DO know that people have misinterpreted the 3DS for another DS).
We got 2 hours to look around the expo and most of the games there were pretty awesome (I didn't play all these, just stood and watched others play them to save time):
Mario Kart 7 - SO FUN! MUCH better than either the DS or Wii versions, and the gliding is really cool. One thing which did confuse me was the water, I didn't want to go in in case I drowned, lol.
Super Mario 3D Land (or w/e) - Loads of fun. The 3D definitely helps you judge the distance. Also it is a perfect cross between NSMB and SMG; one path to the end but in a 3D world.
Kid Icarus - Quite cool but a bit meh. Not really my sort of thing, and the camera movement was a bit awkward (probably because I didn't how to to change it
)
Skyrim - Looks EPIC! I didn't play due to long wait times but from watching I'm definitely going to buy!
FIFA 12 - Again, meh. There's probably quite a lot different from 11 but on first impressions, nothing's changed.
Batman: Arkham City - Looks great. Haven't played the first so I don't know how different it is but there was plenty of awesome stuff going on![yay :yay: :yay:](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
Sonic Generations - More Sonic. What you'd expect, a bit like FIFA this one, at first glance nothing's changed but I might be wrong a I didn't play it.
Journey - A rather slow paced game (from what I saw) but what sold me was the brilliant settings and feeling of emptiness.
Counter-strike: Global Offensive - There were long queues and lots of people crowed round this stand but from the glimpses I got it looks good. Basically a massive revamp of the originals so hopefully they haven't changed it too much.
Onlive Stand - Certainly looked cool but was absolutely PACKED. Plus, I missed the free console give-aways :sob:
I couldn't play Battlefield 3 or CoD (not that I cared about CoD) etc. as they were REALLY strict about the over 18 area. (Seriously they had what seemed like a Berlin wall to stop youngsters peeping in
). There's probably more games but I can't remember now and I'm running out of time.
So, until next time.
Wizerzak.
