I haven't purchased Pokemon!

It's 'cause it's so damn addictive and fun. The basic have remained the same, yet so much has changed since the original. You'd only realise that if you poured your heart into every Pokemon game like I (or many others) have.

I've never really played any of them up until LeafGreen, then I started to enjoy them. I don't play them as much though.

I have played at least one game of every generation but I just feel a really hollow experience. Or I'm probably spoilt by playing RPGS which are so much better than Pokemon like the SMT series. After you've played something as fantastic as that, I find it hard to look at pokemon and actually care for it.

I find it to be quite the opposite of hollow. Pokemon has real depth once you truly get into it.

I've played some of the SMT series too, mostly persona. I've almost beaten 3 on portable, but I sometimes go back to back with pokemon.

You can't really compare SMT and Pokemon. SMT aims at a hardcore RPG audience while Pokemon also wants to cover a younger gamers. Although I don't really care about Pokemon B/W this time either. There are a lot of things which started to annoy me throughout the series. Trading without friends is a pain in the ass, the dialogue and general design could be a bit more mature (or at least less childish) and the story usually doesn't offer any challenge. Breeding, EV-Training and so on is tedious and inconvenient. And then limited amounts of TMs, ridiculous catching system (throwing 60+ hyperballs isn't fun) and region-bound events. I'll wait for the special edition this time, maybe it has some 3Ds enhancements then and might be more worth to play.

Amen on the gaming stuff. I loved Pokemon as a kid, but I can't seem to get into the newer games. The grinding is insane, and there are other games I'd rather spend the time on. Vanquish and Valkyria were both great games, although I wish Vanquish had sold a little better.

I think the problem is that you're comparing apples to oranges, and expecting this pokÃ©apple to be a...erm...pokÃ©orange. Shutup.

Yes, PokÃ©mon is an RPG. Yes it has stats, and items, and turn-based combat. But the story, the (non-competitive) combat, the ... everything you would expect in an RPG isn't what makes PokÃ©mon a great franchise.

It's the sense of exploration, and wonderment. It's more of a safari game than an RPG, when you take into account the main draw.

Sure, it's not for everyone, and I'm certainly not telling you that you should like it, but if you're expecting a real heavy RPG...maybe that's the problem.

People pay for lots of pointless things.
WoW, CoD, apple products, pokemans.
It just seems to be human nature to waste money on crap when better options exist. Not to say pokemon isn't fun the first time. But, played one game, played 'em all.

I totally see what you mean, aside from, a new region, new Pokemon, new story (despite it being rubbish), new battle elements, new moves.... I totally see how Pokemon is the same as it's prequels!

Honestly, I haven't been able to play through any of the Pokemon games since Crystal, even then, I never completed Crystal.

I played the hell out of Blue on the brick GameBoy (which I want to get again), and played Yellow to death on my color. Ever since then, I haven't been interested. I bought Heart Gold after not having a flashcard, thinking, it's a remake, I'm sure I'll love it. I only beat the first region, got to LT. Surge, then gave up.

No idea, the original pokemon games/series, appealed to every single person. But everything after that, it hasn't been able to do that.

I understand your feelings. I used to be that way. I tried every generation to get into it - from the first gen on. It took until HeartGold to come out in order to make me go "This really IS good." Since then, I've been big into the series, though I'll still admit I have a harder time playing the original GB/GBC games.

I think I should make myself a bit more clear here. I have played past Pokemon games and I loved Yellow and Crystal but since then I don't get as much satisfaction as I used to. Since the GBC color games, I just feel like I'm playing the same game over and over again. They're not bad games but I don't feel particulary excited about playing them becasue I'm still doing the same stuff over and over again i.e. get badges, stop evil organisation. It just feels very samey hence I can't see myself buying it. Thus I don't understand the logic of some people in making sure Pokemon is the only game they actually want to buy. I'm not attacking anyone and I fully respect your what you do with your money but I just don't feel any kind of positive emotion. Maybe I'm just fatigued on it now.

Here is a lesson for you: 'If it isn't broken, don't fix it.'

It doesn't mean you don't have to include big improvements to make the game stand out from it's brethren either.

yup. pokemon's storyline bores me too after playing many versions. because it isn't pokemon's asset. it's the pokemons, how to capture them, hunting them. more like collecting.
just like monkat said: rpg isn't pokemon's strong point. you're comparing apples to oranges.
