Mugged

No more than an hour ago, I was in a friend's neighbourhood, just passing by. I saw a bunch of black guys in a small basketball court, and I thought they were just minding there own business. However, after walking half a block, someone poked me on my back, and I didn't know who it was. But this guy went in front of me, and tried to ask me what was in my pocket. He started tugging at the wire of my headphones, thing to take them away from me. I was so alarmed by this that I punched one of them in the face, then I realized he was trying to take my headphones from me. After this there was another person who came from behind and pushed me down to the ground, at which point my glasses fell off. It was a real scuffle, and I was then pushed on to the street, where my cellphone fell on the ground. I was pretty defenseless and wanted to at least try to get a friend, so I ran away, still being followed by them. I was pushed down again when I got to my friends steps, then they all started to go down a small little lane. One of the people I recognized from the basketball court quite a bit, but I never talked to him. And I asked him why the hell they were doing that? But he just asked me why I tried to beat him up. So I tried to go to my friend's just to find out he wasn't home. Also went to another friend's house who also wasn't home. I also had to look for my glasses, which took a bit of time since I was in a bit of a frenzy after what had just happened.

After that the pair of headphones I had just made a blog about were ripped to apart by people I didn't know. I managed to get away with my iPod Touch and my glasses, which were chipped on the left lense. I also picked up the pieces of my broken headphones and went home. After something like that, I'm not bringing out any of my valuables. I don't even know want to bring my house keys with me, because I have no clue what I could've ignited, but this isn't my last time going up there, because I have friends up there.

The same happened to a friend of mine he lost his brand new car keys, his psp and his phone. scared him senseless he was afraid to go outside for ages. He never got over but he always carries a hunting knife with him no matter where he goes. MUGGERS ARE NOTHING BUT CUNTS.

+1 on that sentiment.

Well what a bunch of bastards man. Like the other guys said good job on standing up for yourself and getting some licks in. Ive seen people just hand over their stuff without putting up a fight at all before.

I got to be honest though and say, let this be a lesson to you. I hate to put it like that but if you walk around the streets with headphones like this around your head you really are asking for unwanted attention and trouble.

Sad to say it but you have to be discreet these days about what you carry around with you. And having a huge set of headphones like that on your head will eventually wave a flag to some piece of shit or another to try and mug you for it.

Sorry to hear about your plight, but please DONT start carrying a knife round with you - you'll either end up dead yourself or seriously hurting someone else and doing time in prison where you will encounter far worse than this episode :(

Just realise there's not much else you could have done, and try to be more aware of who's around you all the time - and don't be afraid to run :) My dad is an ex-Royal Marine and he always told me as a kid "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day, He who fights and stands his ground will get his fucking head knocked round".

Hope you get over this soon and put it behind you and get on with your life.

Sound advice from a knowledgable old git....... priceless :)

GUTTED, so sorry to hear that man i was riding home one day on my friends little motor scooter and two hoodies shouted thats my bike lad and came towards me good thing i could go 20mph on that little thing :P but my friend was with me and had my 360 in a bag (good thing they didn't go after him.

I think I saw them at night sitting across the court a couple of nights ago.
And yes, to be honest I did learn from this and I'm not going to go out with any of my electronics or anything valuable with me anymore. But the problem is seeing them again in that same area.

Mate, don't let it stop you taking anything valuable out. Like p1ngy said, be a bit discreet. If you completely change the way you behave then you've let them mug you of part of your personality - that's far more valuable then any material goods. Get yourself down a gym and take up boxing or kickboxing. If that seems a bit too aggressive then see if you can find an Aiki Ju Jutsu/Aikido class. Seriously. It won't be an instant result, but after 6 months you'll start to feel more confident and after a year of something like boxing/kick-boxing you'll feel confident that you can take yourself against the average miscreant and probably feel more confident about yourself all-round.

edit : And give Neschn his birds back you tea leaf!

My way of dealing with muggers is to tell them that i am statisticly more likely to do harm to myself then theyare to me.

Man this happened to me before (sort of) I was just sitting there playing my ds (with r4) when I happen to glance sideways and see this kid reach into another kids pocket and take out a ds game (I quickly looked away after memorizing his face) Then he saw me playing my ds and smiled. He came over and asked if I wanted to buy the game (I had already seen it it was megamanzx which I had on my r4) I said no but he kept asking. After he realized I wasn't going to buy it he started rummaging through my backpack I said "what the heck" and the little s@#! dropped it on my leg (textbooks and all) Stay away from those kinds of people is my advise.
I hate people like that. In UK we refer to them as Hoodies or Chavs. Rather than carry a knife I would suggest just riding a bike instead and avoid that route if possible. Don't wear headphones trying to lure them unless you're out for revenge. If police found you with a knife you're fucked...rather them than you.
Afaik your actually allowed to have a knife on the streets in america? obviously not for stabbing people but they are allowed to carry them.

Damn dude, I'm so sorry... this is basically the reason why I never take anything to school. You just can't trust people. That sucks about your headphones... but at least you got your iPod safe.

A guy called my house today that found my cellphone. If only I could replace the headphones...

No clue how I would explain it to them, and they probably wouldn't let me get it replaced considering I got it on sale.

Speak softly and carry a big stick. :creep:

True, local law enforcement actually issues them when they run out of firearms to give away.

Damn city budget cuts.

Just saw this thread.. Cablephish you had a close call. Muggers is an epithet for dickheads. Nice to see you put up a fight, i haven't really met much people who would take on more than 1 person at a time. I always make sure to travel with friends if possible, and make friends in every area i go, that way I'm always safe :creep:

but yet again i guess Lebanon is different when it comes to these kind of things i.e. the whole gang/mugging stuff thing

anyway sorry to hear about your headphones....good job you got your other stuff back.

you should have hit him...hard.

Yeah, I remember a while ago these chavs asked me whether I had a phone on me, whether they could borrow a pound, and pretty much gave me the signs they were going to mug me. Then when I tried to get off the bus they pulled my hood back, and I just panicked and lashed out like you did. Just sorta started kicking and swearing like a madman XD.
Thankfully all I got was a headful of spat-out polo in the end, but it was still pretty scary aha.

You're still stooping to a new low if you start carrying a knife around IMO. Besides, unless you look confident enough to use it, it probably would just make the situation worse (they'd pull out a gun, or take the knife off you and beat you up).

Totally agree with this. You're better off getting a jacket with biggish pockets and carrying a small hardback book with you, even if you don't read. If somebody comes at you with an average knife (ie. not a combat/bowie knife) it makes a great defense tool. It's not easily penetrated, if slashed at it blocks it pretty well and if you twat some fucker with the spine you'd be amazed how much damage it can do. Plus it can be used as a projectile if your fast enough. ;)

Yeah, I don't like the idea of having to carry a weapon around. I'm going to avoid that at all costs cause it can put me in a horrible position with the police, if they ever found out.
