Old Windows 7 laptop found

IMG_20220327_132709.png

I found an old Windows XP (well it was updated to 7 later on) laptop. It's extremely slow. I have an issue where I have to change the calendar every time so it works with websites. I installed Pale Moon browser on it and it does seem to work with lightweight websites. However, there's one minor issue with that. 40% of the keys are broken, which means unfortunately I'm very limited with what I could do on it. I was able to load up YT Dorper/LiteTube and spell out a song with the working keys. It works fine in 360p. Unlike most modern laptops, you would have to plug this laptop in like a PC, but to be fair this did come out in the early 2000s, at least before 2006 bc that's the calendar date on it. I can watch basic videos on it, look at old photos on the computer, browse lightweight websites. and that's really all! Any ideas what I could do with it

Windows 7 ULTIMATE is the best Windows OS ever.
So, if you happen to have it as your OS, wipe-out all that's unnecessary and you'll have a nice machine on your hands.
Hope it comes with Windows Office 2010... that'd be the cherry on top.

You could use it as a dedicated machine for watching DVD's, burn CD's, copy MP3 files from real CD's, play old emulators like DoxBox or even old Windows games like Space Cadet 3D Pinball, Solitaire, MAME emulators... I dunno.

My dream PC is an overpowered hardware-wise Windows 7 Ultimate PC. Without access to the Internet but with compatibility with older digital painting software like Photoshop CS3, Sketchbook, GIMP 2.8 and Corel Painter.

Also, if it's already infected by viruses... use it as a dedicated KEYGEN machine for proper licenced software. That's what I'd do with old computers.

The obvious answer: Install Linux.
Otherwise? idk, use it as some kind of local file server. I've heard old laptops are good for that job if you want to share og xbox games to your modded xbox with.
At the very least I'd reinstall windows on it if you haven't already, that may help speed it up a tad, and if you can open it up and clean it out and reapply thermal paste that would probably help as well. Lastly, if you have a spare ssd lying around you could probably put that in there for another speed boost.
If you need help with software feel free to pm me.

Yeah it's like really slow right now. I have barely anything on it and it's slow. I don't think it has office 2010, I think it has an older version of it. It has no DVD drive but I do have a plugin. I could probably do minor emulating but I think I wanna refresh the thing first. Do you know how to do that?
EDIT: Wait reality just woke me up, a lot of the keys are broken :(

Oh yeah, I'll definitely pm you later for Linux, but before I do, do I need like a USB drive or anything?

Create a booteable USB and "burn" a Windows 7 or XP iso to it.
Use BIOS to uninstall the current OS, and reinstall the "new! OS with your USB.

Althought... last time I did that was in 2010, and I don't remember which software I used back then.

FAST6191 might know more modern methods though. He's a real wizard with super powers. I call him Harry Potter.

Yeah I could probably do that, but the thing is some of the keys are broken, so I'm very limited with what I can do, and it's also hardware made more for xp, not windows 7

I mean any external storage device with enough space should work, so you could technically use something like an sd card or a dvd if you wanted to, usb drives are just the best option and are fairly cheap. Someone you know probably has one lying around that they don't use anymore. You can also reformat the drive and use it like normal again afterwards.

I'm not sure if this tool could help you... but there's this thing called: Windows ISO Downloader.
It's been in my drive for ages... literally ages stored... and I've never used it.

My intentions with it was to download a Windows 7 Ultimate ISO with this tool. but my laptop has many incompatible drivers and literally lacks BIOS (UEFI SHIT) and It's useless to me.

But I'm sure you can dig about this tool and look if it can download XP isos.

I'm not sure if it generates KEYS, nor I don't know if there's still any KEY left for both XP or Windows7.

But this is my two cents. A bit of info that might come handy.

EDIT: Mods, feel free to delete this.

No I meant like the keyboard keys are broken. I actually found another laptop that shocked me which I'll post tommorow. However, the laptop in this blog is a lost case
