Built some custom Game Boys!

I've been watching The Retro Future for the past year or so and all of a sudden I felt inspired to make a custom DMG Game Boy(or two) of my own and finally check out LSDJ and try to learn that.

Got all the parts from retromodding.com (using discount code: RETROFUTURE)
Really like how they turned out, especially the transparent red, love that color. So sexy.
Just waiting for my Ezflash Junior's to arrive so I can use them more. I only have a few GB(C) games from my childhood, and they're not really the ones I want to play right now.

The process was mostly just unscrewing and screwing stuff, cutting off some parts of the shell to make the IPS screen kit fit and enlarging the square hole as the screen is slightly larger than standard.

The power button plastic piece seemed a bit too big, there was a visible gap between the two shell halves in that corner and the shell put too much pressure on it, causing it to grind against a small lip on the back part of the shell and get kinda stuck and not move smoothly. Troubleshooting that and figuring out the cause and solution took a while. Otherwise everything just fit together. Still took me like 7 hours all in all, the first one took most of that time since it was the first time doing it, and I was taking my time so as to not make any mistakes. Second one only took a couple of hours from start to finish.

And here is what they looked like before the surgery :P
I actually got these just today, got all the parts a few days ago so I was just waiting on the slow postal service before I could do anything.
The black shell is in pretty decent condition actually. I'm keeping it because it seems like a waste to throw it away. But I have no use for it :P
The gray one had bubble marks on the screen (Liquid damage? Appears to be related to the polarizer as the screen appears lighter in those spots) but the screen on the black one was in good condition.
Neither of them had any evidence of battery leakage which is good.

The solid colors are cheap enough, but I wanted something more unique. RetroSix does custom UV prints though... Had I known that, I might've gone with them instead.
Yeah. eBay has a lot of reasonably priced ones (all coming from Japan funnily enough), no point in paying more for one that's in good shape if you're going to replace most of it anyway. I went with a local seller, so I didn't have to pay import tax (would've cost about the same though)
