    I had not used it in months, worked fine back them, then I tried using again and it shuts off after a minute at the most

    Most likely its overheating, prob needs new thermal paste on cpu/ gpu. That stuff after years dries up become crusty n no longer works to transfer the heat.

    @BigOnYa I was thinking of running the bad update to get the dvd key then use to flash the dvd drive

    Doesn't sound like it if it worked fine before, other things to check is visually check USB and hdmi (if it has) ports for damage.

    Other possibility is a bad power supply block. I'd start with replacing thermal paste, cause if you never have, it definitely needs new paste.

    @salazarcosplay When it shuts off on its own, does the power supply light show red or orange light? If its red, most likely bad power supply. Orange is normal off, green when powered on, red is a fault.

    Even after turning on, then wait for it to power off on its own, then what color? If orange then normal. I'd start with repaste. Most likely just overheating.
