now I've noticed some problems with this email

1) the email received doesn't include the said infringed item if any in question it just say to log into the customer portal (red flag in my mind)
2)ever since the last time I've stayed away from torrents (even legal like linux distros) since the last time, I only downloaded one (the TWL FW files directly from 3ds.guide to fix DS mode on my O2ds since then if I ever pirated I used file hosters or private servers from certain wares sites

3)about the TWL files the letter was timestamped at 10:40AM EST the dl initiated after 11am

so somethings not adding up
also my internet was never cut off this time so that perplexed me more

Even if you can't use a vpn you could at least use encrypted dns and make sure your browser is using ssl.

I wonder if using DC++ is a solution for you. I'm not sure how monitored it is. . I use it to get my tv shows and movies. Them Russian HUBs have massive shares like over 100TB. I get good speed from them also.
Someone would have to run a honey pot to catch users. Id like to see them try to shut down the russian hubs

@memoir unless you consider Youtube/crunchyroll with ads illegal which I haven't been on either site that day I only used file hosters CDNSP (a possibility of what tripped it) and I used the twl firmware files (torrent) that was linked on 3ds.guide so if it's that I'd advise Plantics to move the said files to another host and not torrents

@chrisrlink The thing with internet traffic is that as long as it's encrypted (HTTPS) they can't see what you're downloading. They can see what domains you access if you use their DNS, but that doesn't tell them anything more than what sites you like to frequent.

@the Real Jdbye so basically not even file hosters are safe anymore? I guess it makes sense to expand their reach now cause more and more are turning to private servers/file hosters

I'd love to get a VPN but the service I pay for is already 500 kb/s down and 200 ping so I don't have any bandwidth to spare.

heard Verizon sucks too the tv does my parents are paying $190 for phone tv internet like damn

Those letters can be delayed for months at a time. Back when I used to live at my mom's and she had Charter, she bitched at me because she got some emails for shit I downloaded off of public trackers months prior.

@chrisrlink If they're using HTTPS it should be safe. Though with MEGA who knows, Kim Dotcom says he's not in control of MEGA anymore and to not trust it.

that could explain it @Subtle Demise but it doesn't explain why the file in question. isn't named at all in this letter the other 3 strikes (hence I got cut off on e3) displayed the name of the file in question

thats odd though and what if the said offender has no access to his account as I pointed out (they have control over my bank account which IS LEGAL if they are a rep payee of my SSI

Imo thats just utter laziness not to include an extra few words it could be a fishing attempt for all I know I think thats why cox names the file on the AUP letter as an extra security feature for that reason

Man, American ISPs are so fucking scummy. To me, having an ISP scan your activity for POTENTIALLY "ILLEGAL" content is unthinkable.

Meanwhile my ISP have gone to court cause they were sued by the police because they refused to give out their users data, and the ISP won the court case, lmao.

Tell them to go suck a dick, and that you have nothing to do with that third party. They can kick rocks.

Oh, and for the love of god, use a fucking VPN, it's $40 for a year of protection.

update: kept with my habit of no torrenting doing so well they even are closing my ISP email account (Routine if unused for half a year) i still have my service though
