Ask me anything.

I thought "What is the actual point, there is nothing interesting about me that I've talked about on GBAtemp and this is a dumb trend", but then I realised
a) No harm in doing so
b) people can freely ask programming and hardware questions and I love answering those

So ask away

I met Diema in a MGS3 Online discord. I was fairly active there, and he just DMed me one day saying "Would you be interested in hearing about a Metal Gear inspired fan game", and that sort of spiralled from there.

Ok seriously

What are your honest opinions on the Nintendo Switch video game system released by Nintendo on March 2017 and features games such as Zelda Breath of The Wild, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey

I feel like ultimately, people are getting too excited about it. I think it's a good concept and it's good that people who didn't own a Wii U are experiencing some of the great games Nintendo made in the space of 5 years, but it's been almost 18 months on the market and the only tempting exclusive is Odyssey.

Not a big Splatoon person anymore but from what I can tell, 2 looks extremely similar to 1, so it's cool but it's a "more of the same" game. Which is a shame, because that's incredibly unoriginal from a company that thrives on innovating tirelessly and I feel like Nintendo are sleepwalking through the Switch by porting Wii U games. Of course, Odyssey exists, and the fifth iteration of Smash is coming, but that's 2 games. Is that enough to sell a system?

The biggest selling point of it isn't even that new or unique. It's been attempted before since the Sega Nomad in the 90s, in an incredibly similar fashion, and the PSP Go was basically an uncanny prediction of the Switch concept (with docking and wireless control and the like).

What I tend to do for that, because I'm in a similar situation with my PSP which only supports WEP and WPA, is I use my phone as a mobile hotspot with no password or encryption. Should have no issue detecting it.

Alternatively, you could set up a WEP network on your router, although that's a little bit messy.

All I have for a phone is an iPhone that won't let me set up a hotspot with no password, so I guess I'll see if I can figure out how to make the router work with the DS somehow. Thanks for the answer though. :)

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
