My speed test at speakeasy.net/speedtest

Download Speed: 23831 kbps (2978.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 17121 kbps (2140.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Verizon FiOS :D
$64.99/month

Everything I download finishes within 24hrs if the speed is good some times more depending on the filesize. I :wub: my connection.

I get like 70KBps download normally and i find that plenty fast enough most of the time. We pay like $70 bundled with phone.

4.6mb ^^ isnt that fast really when in the uk virgin internet and bt internet are already pushing upwards to 25mb and aiming for and testing 50mb in parts of london with the advances of adsl 2 then maby more :)

we have 8mb where we are here (uk also ) but its contention ratio sucks so i downgraded back to 3.5mb it does me and its constant 3.5mb too :)

I remember in 2000 I downloaded a 4MB mp3 file with 4kb/s....
Now 8 years later I download things from a private tracker with 400kb/s....I'm happy with that.

Ehr, yeah. 4.6mb/s is pretty fast for DOWNLOAD speed.

we have 8mb where we are here

8mb = 800kb/s download speed.

I downloaded Apple iTunes at a speed of 40 MBps (max), it finished in only few seconds.
Of course, this was my university's connection...
8Mb = 1000KB/s download speed
If that was a correction towards my post, it was a rough estimate. I have 8MB and most of my speeds are around 800.

4684kb = 4.6mb!

8mb = 8192kb

4.6 = just over half 8 is it not?

1 Byte = 8 Bit
1 Kilobyte = 1024 Bytes
1 Megabyte = 1048576 Bytes
1 Gigabyte = 1073741824 Bytes

Megabits and Megabytes are very different things.

But really, I have no idea how it works. All I know is you will not get 8000kb/s download speed on an 8Mb connection. Whatever the advertised speed is, divide it by 10 and that'll be your download speed.
I get around 800 KB (kilobytes) a second, usually. But in the evenings it tends to halve.
Me too. Mine even drops down to 200kb/s sometimes. Damn ISP.

I'm so sad... my speed is 30mbps, and I'm paying $130 a month for 60GB of download (uploads counted). It's the fastest I can get :(

Very easy...take your advertised speed and divide by 8. That will convert to bytes. So if your connection advertises 8Mb, you'll get 1 MB/s max download.

omg I have 300kbps if I'm lucky... sometimes 12kbps when Bell Pathetico throttles me...
My contract ends on September 16, I can't wait until that day so I can show Bell the middle finger and switch to Videotron

my internet suks, 300kb/sec = MAX , I use Telus enhanced, and its advertised 1.5mb/sec download, WTF? THeyre such ripoff artists >_<

I don't get the speed as advertised from Bell, 400KB/s. They advertise 7mbit, which is about 900KB/s. I'm not too annoyed or anything though because it's good enough for getting what I want when I want it and I don't get the download caps they advertise with the speed now because I haven't changed my service at all.

Still, they have some of the WORST technical support I've even had the misfortune of dealing with and I will switch ISPs as soon as another one is offered out where I live.

I've gotten so much shit from Bell during my contract year, including getting scammed (ordered upgraded speed, got even lower speed + low cap), their Shitty Service©, billing issues, and my router disconnects at least twice per day.
I can't wait until September 16 so that I can switch to Videotron...
