Adventures of Tropicana and the homeless guy

So, today was a weird day. For the first time in my life, I was nearly robbed, I should say.

I work at a local coin laundry, and today was a day like no other. (I have two part time jobs. One here, and another at McDonalds) I was just taking in orders, folding clothes, helping people out, keeping people company, cleaning the machines, and so on. I pretty much become the manager of the place whenever I work, since no one else is there.

But about 30 minutes before closing time, there was a phone call. I was cleaning the machines at the end of the row, so I ran to the cashier counter. Turns out, there was a guy waiting there. I apologized, quickly grabbed the phone, and just gave the caller all the info they needed. The guy was standing there, doing nothing but smiling. He seemed like he was in his late 40s, with pretty dirty clothes on. He also wore a dirty brown jacket and seemed like one of the few homeless people who comes in almost daily.

He asked me, "How much would it be to drop off about say... 5 pounds of clothing, and I pick it up tomorrow?". I found the question suspicious, since the prices were already printed on the walls. I just gave him a detailed answer, and he said that he'll be back some other day then, and even told me to have a pleasant evening before he walked out the door. I thought he seemed like a nice person, and went back to cleaning the machines.

About 5 minutes later, I heard a ding noise coming from the cash register. I ran as fast as I could, only to find the same guy, fondling money. I was surprised he even found the key to open the register, since we kind of hide it for security measures.

"What the hell are you doing?". The guy put down the coins, and kept telling me he was sorry, and kept telling me that he was really hungry. " Get out of here now, before I call the police." He kept saying that he was sorry and only did it because he was hungry.

I was somewhat scared myself, because I've never dealt with anything like that in my life. Now I wonder if I should contact the police...

Ohhhh, God, That just scrambled my brain :(...>>.....>...>...

That would scare me also, however I would probably give him a few bucks to get something to eat though if that was me.
Yea, I probably would have given him some money. If I felt safe.
Yeah me too, but call the police if he tries it again ;)

I usually don't give homeless individuals money, as they might spend it on something else. (Drugs/alcohol, etc). If you bump into him again, treat him to McDonalds. It's more humanizing.

And call the cops if he does it again.

One of my friends used to play with a homeless man in the sewers as a kid. He said he and all his friends would all play tag with the homeless man. One day, one of the friends saw the homeless man showering under a drainpipe. With another man. :creep: He told his mom and they werent allowed to play with the homeless man anymore.

Regardless, i would prolly get pretty mindfucked with that whole deal.

@ astrangeone: I know thats to common thought, but if they want money and you want to give it to them, then do it. Its not your decision what they do with it. They are homeless for a reason and if you give money that goes to drugs, then thats not your problem.

It's probably best NOT to give them money it will no doubt give them the impression you can give them money regular! ....And come back or send their friends for a money donation too!

Instead advise them where the nearest Soup kitchen or whatever it is where homeless people get food given and shelter :)

Also make sure you keep the key in a different place from now on!
