At the time of writing i do not currently own a DS so i am unable to take pictures and will probibly forget to speak about a few things but i will try to be
very clear on the things i do remember.
Like a lot of people looking into getting several games on a single DS cartridge i searched the internet looking up solutions to this problem.
I stumbled across a website selling all kinds of soluas bla bla bla. As your reading this review (hopfully someobody will) you most likely
know what and acekard2 is and all of its features but some of you may not and heres a reminder even if you do.

I myself knew nothing about the flash cart community and products but decided to buy this one because it was cheap and there was a special offer
on it to make it even cheaper (actually i brought 2 because i liked the first one so much but any way). I dont own a DS or infact a DSL but my
girlfriend does so i used hers. I agreed to buy the AceKard if she brought the less expensive memory card which is a SanDisk 4GB microSDHC class 2.
Packaging:
When i recieved the package i was suprised to see it was sent in a envelope and didnt actually think anything was inside but there was otherwise i wouldnt
be writing this review, would i. I opened the envelope to find a plastic shell casing, almost like a blister casing but less annoying to open, the casing is
suprisingly small which is handy as this reduces shipping costs which the retailer passes onto you so your saving money, wahay! Inside of the plastic casing
is a folded piece of printed card, that has the brand name on it the companies tagline 'the real ultimate experience in your hand', several media symbols,
the website. On the back is more of the same but with the features in both english, kinda, the english isnt perfect but you can understand what there on about,
and what i would call chinese. Opening the Card you find a manual in both english and chinese. This tells you to download the latest firmware from the website
and to place it on the TF card (microSD card). The manual is easily followable and does provide help.
I wasnt expecting anything special for the packaging and i didnt recieve anything special but the packaging was adequate and i wasnt disapointed to see find
a simple plastic casing because its a budget card and it obviously costs less to produce, but look on the brightside its resealable
Contents:
Within the packaging is a microSD card reader, and of course the AceKard2. First the reader, it is capable of reading both microSd and microSDHC however
i cannot confirm whether it is USB 2.0 compliant, i have just formatted my computer and installed the USB 2.0 drivers but no matter which port i plugged
it in windows found it necesary to tell me that this device could perform faster in slot x. I have 8 USB ports and obviously couldnt find magical slot x
but im happy to report that transfer speed was very quick, the average game (30-50mb) taking less than a second to copy with larger games (200mb) taking
2-3 seconds to copy. One snag with the card reader is that it is a very tight fit into the USB ports i even tried it on another PC to check i didnt have retarded ports
all though it went in there pc a lot easier than mine it was still a slight struggle and could have benefited from being a tad smaller.
Now the AceKArd2 istself, looking at the acekard is not something i intend to do for long periods of time and i strongly reccomend that you dont do it because
its just weird, this is good as the card isnt going to win any beauty competitions, the card is the same size and shape (almost, rounded edge isntead of flat
edge in lower left corner) and theres a holographic sticker on the front with the name of the product its tagline and the acekard website, under the stick there is a
square protrusion coming from the case, this is a chip from within side the case and above this square is a dot of a protrusion more than likely a piece of soldering,
like i said im not really bothered about the looks of it as it will sit in her DS but on that note the cartridge fits in the slot1 of the DSL easily with not much sign of resistance
to the card however the card doesnt fit snuggly on the DS case, one side seems to be raider above normal level and the other below normal level but this isnt
enough to complain about. i was suprised picking up the acekard to just how light it was , much lighter than a commercial cartridge, i didnt crack
out the scales to weigh this but its light, well excellent you may be thinking or does it matter i could already pick up a normal weight cartdrige, well yes it does.
The main contributing factor to its weight is the thickness of the plastic on the card. This makes the card more flimsy than normal cartridges and feels like its
going to brake, gently pressing on the casing caused the case to deform but not a worrying ammount. As a test i triend rattling the card in my hands to see if it
fell apart and it didnt so i tried dropping it on the floor and it didnt, as borat would say GREAT SUCCESS. The card is easily opened by 5 little clips but isnt
so easy that you can do this by accident. The microSD slot is spring loaded like a lot of flash carts but the spring isnt very powerful, i tried the fling test
and the memory cart traveled no further than 5cm. The memory card can be quite fiddly to insert its not just a simple press down you have to get your nails
down by the side of it to click it in place and the same to remove it but for me this isnt a problem as i rarely or she rarely takes the memory card out.
Using the Card:
Following the instructions from the piece of card, i downloaded the latest version of the firmware (Version 4.07a15) from the website and placed them on the
TF, eager to test the card i didnt bother with a cheat database but later came back to it, I quickly transferred the games onto the memory card which i had already downloaded
and put the memory card in and the acekard in the DS and booted it up. The Acekard does not overide the default 'operating system' on the DS but isntead comes up
as a game would in its little box. This means that on a DSL the screen brightness is changable but dont worry as it is also changeable whislt on the card.
From clicking on the AceKard on the screen you are presented with a menu witht he options being microSD and slot2 - passme, i of course clicked microSD and was presented with the
exact same file structure that i created on the memory card whilst on the PC, for organisational purposes i placed all of my ROM's in a folded handily called ROMS
once selecting this folder you can view all of the roms on the memory card, All of this takes place on the touch screen.
Glancing up i noticed this beautiful looking interface, there are 3 themes that come with the downloaded firmware and many more avilable to download an infact create on the computer,
the default theme is one called zelda this is brightly coloured and well presented. In the top screen is a calander and time and date settings taken from
the NDS BIOS, the lower screen shows the roms along with there asociated thumbnail picture which i thought was quite nice, there were 20 games on the TF card an everyone of them played
fine all though none of the were particulary troublesome known so with the card to myself i decided to test it and im happy to report that castelvania and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate
ran fine, maybe the features claim of 'Support any brand of microSD. No slow down'. Is true or i got lucky.
The cheatdatabase is available in two formats .dat and .xml i personaly used the .xml type but it does support both, the annoying thing about the cheat system is that if you wanted to get up the cheats for the first time on a game you select a game press x
and then click rebuild, you wait 5-10 seconds and the cheats for that game are displayed on the lower screen, however this is a one of thing and isnt ot much
of an nnoyance depending on how patient you are, to select a cheat you scroll down the list using the D-Pad and press the y button to select and the y button
again to deselect.
Back down on the touch screen i noticed a button labled start, which is very windows like and held some important features, such as copy, paste, cut, delete but didnt include
rename, which was annoying at first but i got over this. Other things in this start menu are patches which brings up a menu to enable/disable Ds download play, cheats/action replay and
soft-reset, i have soft-reset enable as it is a beautiful feature that takes you back to the rom selection menu, which saves you turnin of the console and turning it back on again, but if you do, do this then
you will be pleased to know it takes you back to the rom selection menu anyway with the ability to go back up the directories if you wish, the menu is both functional with the stylus and by d-pad except the cheat selection menu.
Im not much into homebrew and even if i wanted to try them for the purpose of this review i couldnt because i dont have a DS, but according to other reviews this seem to be
100% thanks to its auto DLDI patching.
The AceKard2 save system is simple, it is a 512kb file with the name 'GAMENAME.nds.sav' this means it is interchangeable with other cards that use the same save type.
If you are wondering, like i was, the DS is region free so you dont have to worry about having EURO games like i was, like a fool.
Conclusion:
This is a great first time cart as its not so expensive that your burdened with it because you cant afford a differnt one and it has many features of
the cards 3-4 times more expensive but is still lacking a few things, but what do you expect it is a budget card after all.
Im not going to give the acekard a score because its just my opinion and that cannot be represented numerically
I hope i remembered everything, theres a fair bit to remember. Thanks for reading.
