A year later on GBAtemp.

So, here i am. Sitting, browsing GBAtemp, a thousand posts and a year later, so i've decided i'd go ahead and tell you about it.

So, first off, i was "randomly" looking at youtube, when a video pops up in my "reccomended" section. The name was "[3DS] How To Install CFW (No DS Flashcart or Gateway!)", so i clicked on it. I had looked around on some 3ds stuff earlier, palantine and the CFW leak. I hardly knew anything about console modding at that time. although i knew how the ps3 stuff was done, but i had no idea what a "NAND" was. I had heard about the gateway a while ago, but it was when it only had support for 1 game per SD. I wanted it, but i forgot about it rather quickly. Before that i looked at the Crown3DS, when it was at 30%, saw it rise, but gave up when it sayed on 70% for so long. But, back to the video.

So, i saw you needed to downgrade, and to downgrade, you needed a console on 9.2 or lower. I had not used my 3ds in a long time, so when i looked at it, it had 7.2. I think "Yes!", so i follow the tutorial to downgrade. It was rather quick, and i was too lazy to check the MD5, but everything was all right. So after Downgrading, i proceed to the first video. I follow the tutorial (which is pretty short, but very hard to understand by a n00b), and seem to figure most thing out. I format emunand etc, but making it a REDnand didn't seem to work. I found a guide browsing on GBAtemp, and a "fix" for emunand/rednand. It involved copying some hex lines from the NAND.bin, and pasting them at the bottom(i think). It took me like a week to set up, but when i was done, it was super-exiting!

And after i got the actual CFW working, i had major issues using the sending cia via wifi thing, and had to try a LOT of times. I spent 3 days doing it, because i didn't have that much time. But when i got it working, it felt so good, and right. I had installed a cfw on my first console.

After a LOT of googling around, and downloading 3ds roms from unknown sites, i find it. that "3ds" site that has "iso"s/cia's. But i downloaded the New super mario bros 2 cia with all the dlc's before i found the site. It was a pain in the ass getting it to boot every time, and sometimes i just lost my saves.

So, i look at some more 3ds videos, and i see a video on installing cia's to sysNAND, and i wonder what this "sysNAND" is. I was explained that it is the actual system, and not the "system" on the SD Card. Then i found out about what a "legit cia" is, and it seems great to me. Installing "preinstalled" games, so i don't have to boot a CFW every time i want to play my installed games. Then rxTools appears. I saw that it could have an updated system, and the normal system. So i tried it with pokemon. At that time we didn't have sig-patched rxtools. It worked great. but i got tired of having to launch rxTools every time i want to play newer games, so i read about sysupdater, and 3DNUS. with a bit of help from pakrett, i found out how to keep the twl, mset and ds whitelist. so, i download them, and run PBT-CFW to update. I had all my games installed as legit cia's, so i could play them, as 9.2 didn't have a cfw(yet).

Then, a while later, i bricked my 3ds. I cried. It was when rxtools was closed source. I dumped some files from sysnand and injected to emunand, but it seemed like the dump went wrong. Rxtools freezed, and i turned off my 3ds. Black screen. RIP. I tried to hardmod my 3ds. I removed the cartridge slot, because i was too scared to take the whole motherboard out. I thought i was going to break it. I messed up on the CLK, and burned off two tiny components. I kept on trying though, and i got the blue screen, but the wrong message. I tried resoldering again and again, but nothing worked. I tried at the other side too, but then i gave up, as i realised the two parts were vital.

I didn't have a 3ds. I was sad, but, it wasn't that bad. A few days after i messed up, rxPasta was released. I cried some more, because of my bricked my my 3ds, but i continue living my life. During the summer, my friend broke his 3ds. It was the bottom screen. None of the buttons worked for some reason, and the bottom screen didn't light up. His dad ordered a new screen, and had his friend repair it. He broke off a connector, and they give up. I took a look at it, and said i might be able to fix it, but it was going to be a pain in the ass. My friend gave it to me, because his dad said he was going to buy him a n3ds. I spent most of my free time trying to repair it. After very many tries, i got it to work. Both of the screens lit up. (this was a combo of his mobo, and my screens etc). but then i realised the touch didn't work. I tried taping it etc. to the connector over and over again. Nothing worked. Then i had an idea. Stacking up pieces of tape, and some foam at the end to push it gently down. It worked.

That summer, my mom took away my PC, because she meant "You don't have any need for a PC during summer, you can be active" i cried even more.

Yay, i have a 3ds now. Sadly, it was on 9.8. The time IronHax was available, i was on this camp thing, and didn't get to download ironfall. I cried some more. Then tubehax comes. Felt good. I downloaded some homebrew, because homebrew is great. I tried some emulators. Some ran ok, but most didn't. So i kinda ignored it for a while. Then i bought my brother's O3ds off him, because he has an O3dsXL. It was on 4.5 because i tried to set up CFW on that one too, but installing cia via wifi didn't work on it. So i found a way to inject fbi to NAND. I installed sysupdater to it, and updated to the modified 9.2. I installed Menuhax, and set up ctrbootmanager and rxTools. It was the cool shit back then.

I played my games and i was happy about it. Then Mem(e)chunkhax2 came. I downgraded the repaired 3ds, to keep in on 9.2. A while passed. Then, a wild exploit appeared. Arm9LoaderHax. I had no freaking idea what this "OTP" was, and why people wanted it. I ignored it a bit, but i saw a guide popping up. I understood a bit more now. A new "cfw launcher" that allowed me to update as much as i wanted to. I installed it to my repaired 3ds, and everything went well. A few days after that, i installed A9LH on my primary 3ds. From midnight to 4AM. It felt like i was going to die because of how tired i was, but it was worth it. This time i was messing around about what NAND to restore. I restored the orignal sysNAND.bin, and i restored my most important save. FE:IF.

That is about it for the 3ds stuff. The 3ds was my main reason to joining GBAtemp. I rarely used it. I only used it to ask for some more explaination on the Palantine CFW etc. But there was something special about this site. I felt welcome here, unlike IRL. but, as i said, my mom took away my computer during the summer, but i was given it back because it was a school computer (i had plans on buying parts and building one myself, but it seems like my parents think everything with wires are cancer). I had a shitty iPhone 4 at the time, and it was crap at browsing the internet, so i almost solely used it for music, and tweaking. When i got it back, i checked GBAtemp. I started becoming more active. I got to "know" a few members, like @Tomato Hentai , which turned out to be a grill, and some of the known members like @VinsCool , @Cherry Pie and @ComeTurismO . I was still a shy person, because thats how i am.

After being here for a bit longer, i merged into the community. I visited GBAtemp every day. Quite a few times a day. I read, a lot. My life felt better because of GBAtemp. I could speak with people without them telling me to shut up, or just ignoring me.

I might write a bit more about my life some other time. (fyi i moved to another place then moved back. and some other stuff). Tell me if you want more or not.

Through the year i've been here, i've seen a lot. N00bs, idots, spam, friendly people, helpful people, VinsClones and a lot more. My conclusion is, GBAtemp is a great place, but only if you use it correctly, and behave nicely.

not sure why I read all that nor how old you are, but it reminded me we all start somewhere, seems this site pushed you to look for answers and learn instead of being spoonfed, and got to interact with ppl in a foreign language, and both are good, keep it up kid^^

@mgrev hehe, I see^^ (indeed your English is quite good!)
well I turned 33 a couple of days ago, but it was the same back in my day, super nintendo copiers (huge box plugged on a snes to read/write legit cartridges to cheap floppy discs) and Playstation1 modchips to play CD-R game backups were huge!
ah the nostalgia ^^
thing is there were no wifi, no Internet (I know ppl were sharing roms through phone lines with a rudimentary terminal in France called MiniTel or something, crazy) and no smartphones, so finding information was especially difficult ^^

Nice to see you around mgrev :)

I somehow feel the same reading this blog post.
I made an account in January 6th 2014, only for the nintendont thread. Became inactive after a few posts until summer 2014, then began to be more and more into the community. This could sound crazy, but GBAtemp felt like a second life. I made online friends, some amazing people here. I got in touch with wonderful guys, spent a lot of time chatting with them, and even kept contact outside of GBAtemp. I got to know many of them, and made me taking the title of "caretraker", because I realized who I really was-- someone who can get in touch with anyone. 2 years passed, and I didn't regret making my account. At first, I was a lurker, doing my own business, without really caring about anyone here. I then understood what a "community" was, and this made me feel much better. Believe it or not, the community with all the amazing people on here helped me improving myself in many ways.
Anyway, I'm glad we met, and keep up being awesome ;)

I've been on GBAtemp since 2006 but didn't make an account till 2007. Yeah I didn't post much but I'd visit the site at least every week looking at the news (GREAT NEWS TEAM BTW) or cool new posts. It's cool to see how the community has developed/evolved from this little forum to a very popular underground gaming forum. I'd consider myself a proud temper!

@Pacheko17 I started learning english when i was in first grade. i was very interrested in other languages, so i read a lot in my spare time. Then i started playing minecraft in 2012, and i started playing on servers in 2013. I spoke english, and had the game set to english. Now, i even dream in english instead of norwegian...

Now, it's time to try japanese xD. i think i'll wait till i'm finished with learning german

If you're gonna learn Japanese, go with Kanji Damage after you've learned Hiragana and Katakana.
