9/11 and "never forget"

Okay, before I get flamed, let me say this...

I do grieve the events that happened this day in 2001, and a friend of the family died in the attack, and he will be greatly missed, but these people with their "NEVAR FORGET" piss me the hell off, and I will tell you why.

People confuse moving on with forgetting. That's it. That's it in a fucking nutshell. Just because I don't go to a candle-light vigil every year for the lives lost in the WTC attack, it does not mean that I have forgotten, it just means that I have moved on. The sun comes up every day, and it sets every night. That is not going to change, and neither is my day to day life.

And more frustrating, it seems that I might be the only sane bastard in this country that has truly moved on. the TSA is still being paranoid and power-trippy, the paranoid americans are still paranoid about the "TERRISTS", and the government isn't really doing much to alleviate it at all.

Seriously, people, Bin Ladin poked the anthill, and the ants are still fucking pissed. There really is a small chance for a terrorist attack with this amped up security that we have had since 2 thousand fucking 2.

Hate me if you want to, object to my opinion until you are blue in the face but you still cannot deny that w have "forgotten" many more acts of war that have cost many more lives than the 9/11 attack, including our own government funded war against "terrorism".

How can I type arguments until I am blue in the face?

Other than that small issue, I agree with everything you said.

Amen. I agree with you there. the issue is that the words are often used interchangeably so people tend to forget the difference.

I completely agree as well. Life goes on, and you have to learn to move on with the past. Staying in the past is not good for you, you need to look ahead to the future.

The best way to deal with pain and grief is to let time heal your wounds, but some prefer to dwell in the past and live each and every moment of it. But why? Why not move on?

I agree with everything you said.

tbh i completely forgot what today was and when someone starred at me like a jerk when i asked what was special today it came to me so i felt like a complete ass today.

Yeah, also, it seems to me, that quite a lot of the people that are like 'NEVER 4GET!!!11ONEONEONE" are quite often people who had nothing to do with the WTC attacks...

Unfortunately, the same happened to me...i felt liek a bit of an asshat...

Yeah, I CAN'T forget because I'm Muslim and the racism against me just keeps the 9/11 incident fresh in my mind.

I wish people would learn to move on. It's been 9 YEARS.

This...I don't understand this. It's not as if all Muslims incite terrorism, nearly all think of the people that do these things as the lowest form of people. At least, this is what I have come to understand from the Muslim guys I know.

No, you're wrong TC. Very DEAD wrong! Terrorist has been existing all around before 9/11, we Americans didn't care till we got attack. That incident right there can't be more far from the truth, while you're thinking 'the never forget' quota getting on your nerves, you still feel the same lost like a whole bunch of people do. I for one can't understand who fuck a war last this long and for what?! 'Fighting against Terrorism, DUUURRR- We're gonna WINZZ!!' Yeah right, we didn't win anything but kept on losing countless warriors who believed that one day we have finally won this war.

Now look at the soilders who died, look at how many more are still there in the middle east. Who many are going to die in this war?! HOW MANY?! This war already ended when we took down the dictator from Iraq, why did we continue? I digress about this sentimental flaw between reasoning and greed. I'm not blaming for the cause however, you're pretending to feel that never forget qoute is enraging you, you will still feel much more pissed if they didn't do a remembrance about that day.

So before you look at me like I'm trolling, remember that this incident is the same way who that Mosque can't be built near Ground Zero because some Americans still feel afraid about the Muslims. Pffft, I wonder how do we call this dirt the land of the free when we can't accept diversity inside our neighborhoods?

This post is a mess, and your grammar makes it very hard to read, but I will do my best to respond.

Yes, Terrorists have been around since the beginning of written history and possibly before then. We trusted our countrymen and our government to shield us from terrorists attacks and the like. This is the reason that most everyone never thought about Terrorists before the attacks. The reason why this "never forget" shit gets on my nerves, is that no one is going to forget. it was a traumatic time in our country's history, but opening the same wound every year is keeping us from healing as a country.

I think you either misunderstood my post or didn't read it at all. I am sympathetic about everyone that died in the attack and this joke that we call a "War", but insinuating that people that would like to move on in their lives have "forgotten" 9/11 and the resulting war, is not only ignorant, but it is also immensely insulting. A remembrance is fine, a ceremony is fine, but don't accuse me of "forgetting" if I would like to live my day to day life without mourning my Godfather that died in the attack all day every day.

And just for the record, I could give two shits about the mosque. Build a church there, build a mosque there, or build a Burger King there. It's not ON ground zero, but a few blocks from it.

I kinda wish the media would stop milking these things for all they're worth.Yes, the 9/11 attacks were terrible. I remember my school being closed as soon as the head teacher heard, he sent everyone home knowing we needed to keep up with what was going on because it was so mind blowing. Oddly enough he sent everyone home but didn't say why, so half of us still didn't know until the following morning after assuming we had a teacher training day and buggering off down the park to play football. I personally walked in to see my dad's girlfriend of the time watching the footage on the news, and I thought she was watching Die Hard or something because of course I had no idea there had been an attack. Strange but true. But anyway. Do the families of the victims constantly need to see the footage over and over again, everywhere they go, until something worse happens? No. I agree, never forget. But let it rest with some degree of dignity.

It's the same here in the UK with Princess Diana. She died over a decade ago, and still people bang on about it like the world would be all sunshine and smiling kittens if she were here. Hell, I didn't care when she actually died. I didn't know her personaly, I don't recall ever hearing of any way she's directly or even indirectly influenced any member of my family. I imagine most people can say the same. And yet it's still going strong. Even if it was all a conspiracy and she was murdered or whatever, who the fuck cares? Would it make any difference? No. You'd still go to work, pay your taxes, live your life like fucking normal. So let it rest. Remember it, sure, but don't dwell on it and forget to keep your mind where it belongs, here in the present.

I remember watching it on the TV I remember seeing the 2nd plane crash into the 2nd tower. I remember seeing people fall out of the building. It was horrific, even though I was so young I still remember it quite clearly. Next year will be worse 'cause it'll mark 10 years.

Nah, the only people going on about it are The Daily Fail.

Hm I remember that day was pretty scary. I also remember how I left school that day and saw the smoke while I was outside with my Dad in queens.

I told her to move n she refused, so I shoveled all the snow back around her car, she couldn't even open her doors. I watched from inside my place till she came out, she was pissed.:rofl2:
