2D Digital Art Fantasy Character redo

I had to redo my fantasy character.

As some of you might remember that my old character was this:

I got a mark back recently and got a 12/20. Luckily, he's giving us exra time to work on it to fix it up. I decided to scrap the entire idea and drew something else. Here it is:

Yes, again it is based off of SotC. He said we can use refrences or w/e so I did.

Anyone like?

Looks nice, man.

How about if that giant would kinda more face to the little one there, because now, he's just like standing there.

Maybe put some action into it? Have the giant armor guy smashing the ground with the sword and the little stick figure jumping out of the way?

You only got 12/20 for the previous one? I can't believe it! It's really beautiful if you ask me!

This one is really good too, I'd say just add 2 tiny red eyes to the small guy and it's perfect. It'll be like the giant is scared of the little man.

By "based off of" do you mean, "slightly changed from?"[/quote]

Yeah, pretty much. The teacher said we can take poses but I kinda got carried away and didn't change that much. >__>

Just wanted to stop in and say that I love your rendering style. Nice work, I'm a fan!

EDIT: Almost forgot, you wanted some constructive crits too!

The tip of the left-most arm of the giant (sword-arm) is a bit confusing to the common eye. Once I look at the reference, I understand that his sword pretty much takes the place of his hand, but to your teacher and audience who haven't seen the reference picture, it looks like a proportional drawing mistake. Remedies could include adding a hand to grasp the hilt of the blade or, if you want to keep the sword-hand, add more of an "L" shape attachment from the character's "elbow" into the sword extension (as opposed to the look of the sword coming straight down and out that you have now).

I like the art style, but miss some real meaning to it. I am sitting here wondering, what is/could be it about. Here is the big strong guy, but he looks sad for some reason. Why is he sad? Because of the things he left behind? The figure in the back doesn't tell us much. Maybe it could be screaming? Showing us something. Or what about some architecture in the back? You know houses, ruins, citys, castles (burning?collapsing?). Or ray of sunshine through the clouds like the sign of hope, the big figure could be looking at it with his sad eyes. Oh, I let my mind play with me again.
