    Christmas Break starts early!

    Hell to the YES.
So, in case you didn't know, bad cases of the flu are going around. (or so I've heard.) This caused an increase in student illness absences at the high school I go to, so they decided to make Christmas Break start early! Now instead of starting on the 20th, it starts on the 18th and goes on until January 3rd! Anyways, thanks for reading my blog.

So, as some of you may know, I had to leave GBAtemp a few days ago due to my computer being shit. Well, I found the issue, and as it turns out, it was something incredibly trivial which I hadn't thought about in the first place: the computer was fragmented all to hell. I thought I had a schedule set up for the computer to defragment itself, so that was my last fear, but as it turns out, I didn't have it set up. I finally got around to defragmenting it, and all is well now! I'll be able to view GBAtemp and post on the forums more frequently now.

I'll be leaving GBAtemp for an unknown amount of time. Here's why:

Recently my computer's decided to take a shit, and that means I can't browse GBAtemp as often as I'd like. I'm working on getting this shit heap that I call a computer for whatever reason replaced, but it'll take some time, so, I've been forced to make this decision: I'll be leaving GBAtemp for an unknown amount of time, meaning that I don't know when I'll be able to come back. I'll also have to cease activity on other websites such as Reddit and Discord for this exact same reason. Now, don't get me wrong, the community hasn't done anything to make me want to leave, nor have I lost any interest in gaming or hacking. It's just this piece of shitty hot garbage I call a computer, and I don't have a phone to use to browse GBAtemp. So, this decision has kinda been forced. I'll try to come back when I can. Until then...

Why I've been quiet over the past few months

So, as many of you may have noticed, I haven't been online much over the last few months. Trust me, I do have an excuse. Life shit such as school kinda took over my life, and I haven't been able to get on as much as usual. You may have also noticed that in spite of this, I'm active on Discord. My reasoning for that is I use the desktop client and I keep it open in the background. I have been trying to find time to use GBAtemp, and now that I've changed my school schedule around, I actually can! I understand that this was posted on a week-end, but everything stated here is true. Expect to see more of me over the coming weeks. If you DON'T see me though, I'm either buried in homework or dead.

    My microSD adapter broke...

So, I'm one of those people who still use an Old3DS, and I've been using a microSD Card and an adapter to store my games, apps, etc. Lately, it's been on the fritz, and that's because of the adapter, not the microSD Card. A few hours ago, it stopped working. I was playing a GBA game, so I wasn't aware of this until I tried to go to the HOME Menu and the 3DS turned off. I tried to turn it on again, but it wouldn't. The adapter wouldn't work in any other devices (Wii, Wii U, PC, etc.) so I tried the card in the adapter I normally use for my Wii. It worked! I concluded that it was the fault of the adapter and not the microSD itself. I cannot use the adapter from my Wii, however, as it contains all of the apps and games for my Wii. So, my adapter is broken and I cannot play any games unless it's on a cartridge and doesn't need extra data from the SD. About the GBA game, it's Warioware Inc.: Mega Microgame$! I finally completed the game and decided I would switch games. Then, all of that happened. I lost most of my progress and have to start over again. I hate my life.:angry::hateit:

My Opinions On: Nintendo Direct 9.13.2017 (non-shitpost version)

Nintendo Direct 9.13.2017 had a lot to it. Let's start with Super Mario Odyssey. And, oh MAN, is this game looking more and more like Super Mario Galaxy 3 as we get more information? The graphics look amazing, almost on-par with many 4K games! I'm not the biggest fan of how Cappy and Mario come together, but that being said, the game isn't even out yet. It's likely to grow on me.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon is looking like the next Black 2 and White 2, but that being said, it could be much more than a reuse of Alola like Black 2 and White 2 were a reuse of Unova. UB Burst and UB Assembly look insane, so insane that I can't even begin to describe them. I don't know about many of you, but I'll be trying to get the pre-order bonuses.
Now let's talk about Project Octopath Traveler. I've never been a fan of the RPG genre (at least in the sense of Bravely Default or Final Fantasy), but Octopath Traveler grips me with it's graphics. The use of pixel art, CG, and Square Enix's "HD-2D" really appeals to me for some reason. Who knows, maybe I'll like the game! Only time will tell.
Mario Party: The Top 100 seems more like a "Best Of Mario Party" than a new entry in the series, and that's because, well, it is! It contains multiple games from the series that fans really enjoyed, and I'm fine with that. It's just that I find it strange that they made a compilation of these games, especially for the 3DS. Nonetheless, I'll be picking it up.
Minecraft is actually on the Nintendo 3DS! It took you long enough, Mojang. The catch? It's a New 3DS exclusive and it looks like a port of Pocket Edition. I'm actually really upset that it's a New 3DS Exclusive, but that's yet another excuse to get a New 3DS.
I have mixed feelings about Snipperclips Plus: Cut it Out, Together!. The game was already enough by itself. Did we REALLY need DLC and a premium version? It's odd to me why Nintendo did this, but maybe others will enjoy it. Well, to each their own.
I honestly don't think many people care about the Orange & White New Nintendo 2DS XL. Neither do I. Many of us already own a 3DS or a 2DS, so this was extremely unnecessary. However, the color choice is there for those who are thinking about getting a New Nintendo 2DS XL in orange, so it's good to have the choice.
Lastly, let's talk about Arcade Archives. This really reminds me of Virtual Console Arcade from the Wii, mainly because that's basically what it is: old arcade games on your game console. I'm really glad this is on the Switch, because this means that we can take the arcade classics with us wherever we go. A definite purchase for me.

I'm really bummed that we didn't get a new Super Smash Bros., but this Direct had a lot of stuff to it and it definitely built up the hype for some games, as if we didn't already have enough hype.

I'll be trying to get an SNES Classic Edition when it's released.

I have decided against getting an NES Classic to get an SNES Classic when it's released on September 29th. Why, you may ask? Well, for one, the prices for the NES Classic are RIDICULOUS compared to the SNES Classic's $79.99 MSRP.
Stupid scalpers. $243.96 for an NES Classic Edition? No thanks.

For another reason, the SNES Classic Edition will probably be hacked to hell and back sometime after release, be it a week, a month, or a year, and that means that we'll likely eventually be able to emulate NES Games through RetroArch on the SNES Classic.

For a third reason, Nintendo has promised to provide significantly more stock of the SNES Classic Edition than they did the NES Classic. I trust Nintendo to keep their word, so I hope to get an SNES Classic sometime this year.

And, for the last reason I'll explain here, it has Star Fox 2! If you are (somehow) unaware, Star Fox 2 was an unreleased sequel to the first Star Fox game. An incomplete ROM of the game was leaked and released to the internet. There's ONE key word here, however. INCOMPLETE. The leaked ROM was playable, but it contained many bugs and some of the features were not final. The SNES Classic Edition version, however, is complete and fully playable, with all features finalized. You DO have to complete the first level of the original Star Fox to unlock it, but that's besides the point.

20 games, PLUS an unreleased game? Sign me up!

I know there are many of you who will tell me to just get a RaspberryPi instead and install RetroPi onto it "because it's easy and cheap." Well, I don't want to get a RaspberryPi, and that's that. You can't change my mind.

I'll let you all know if I get an SNES Classic Edition when it releases, if I fail at getting one before it's inevitably discontinued, or if I somehow kill myself in the process.

I'm saving to get an NES Classic Edition

    Yep. In 2017.
I'm set on getting an NES Classic Edition before the next Mario & Luigi game release. So, before October 6th. I don't trust eBay enough, so I'll be getting it through Amazon. Does anybody know any tips on how to watch out for fakes?

    Here's why piracy is bad.

Video games. Movies. Music. TV shows. They are all wonderful things. They have evolved over time and have progressively become easily distributable. However, this leads to one major problem that has become known as piracy. What is piracy, you may ask? Well, piracy is the unauthorized redistribution of copyrighted work, such as video games, movies, music, TV shows, books, etc. Piracy has become a huge pain in the ass for artists and developers, as it causes them to lose money for the work they've spent tons of tireless hours, days, months, or even years on.
For example, let's say that a popular game has just been released. It will sell a lot of units, and the developer will get the cash they deserve. However, in the next few days, the game will make it's way onto some of the leading torrent sites and/or ISO sites, therefore making the game available online without the developer's knowledge. The game will be pirated by millions of users and the developer will lose the sales that would have gone through, had the game not been pirated. This causes problems for the developer, such as lack of sufficient funds to pay for the development of a new game. Eventually, the developer may go under.
There are many ways to prevent piracy. One of the more popular methods is digital rights management (DRM), however, it seems to be a pain in the ass for the majority of legal users. Another popular and smart method is implementing special anti-piracy measures in games. We'll use Game Dev Tycoon as an example. Pirates of the game would start the game normally but wouldn't get the achievement in the beginning thanking them for purchasing the game, and the game would play normally until later in, where players using pirated versions of the game would get a message saying that their games are being pirated, causing their company to lose money, eventually going under. To learn more, watch the IGN News video below.

In conclusion, I think it's safe to say that piracy is bad for not only the creator of the content being pirated, but also the consumer, because if piracy continues the way it is currently, even the bigger companies like Nintendo or Microsoft will eventually go bankrupt.

My Thoughts On: tempStyle 2 (AKA GBAtemp v6)

GBAtemp recently suffered a few hours of downtime because of an unexpected redesign: tempStyle 2! When the website came back online, loads of users were greeted with unfamiliarity since none of them had used this new tempStyle before and were most likely used to tempStyle 1. I have been using tempStyle 2, and I do enjoy it, but I have a few questions.

Why is there no dark theme? I understand that tempStyle 2 is new and that it took 6 months to create, but people seemed to really enjoy using the dark theme. I mean, come on. Amateur developers were able to make dark themes for GBAtemp with a Google Chrome extension in under a day, so it can't be that hard. I, myself, don't use the dark theme too often, but it is nice to have a light/dark setting.
What's with the sudden push of tempStyle 2? There was no announcement (except on Twitter, but some of us, myself included, don't follow GBAtemp on Twitter) prior to the website going down that tempStyle 2 was the cause and that it was going to be pushed onto users as soon as the website came back up. A little notice such as an email would have been nice.
What will become of tempStyle 1? I do know that users can switch between tempStyle 1 and 2 at will, but how long will that feature be in place and what will happen to tempStyle 1 after that feature is removed?

Now, I really like the simplicity of tempStyle 2. I mean, even the logo is simplistic. This is a perfect example of how 2017 could possibly be the year of simplicity. (Yes, I came up with that idea.)
tempStyle 2 is much easier to use on mobile devices than tempstyle 1, and I respect that. It makes using GBAtemp easily possible no matter where you are.
It's a really nice way to celebrate GBAtemp's 15th Anniversary. This new tempStyle combined with GBAtemp's Patreon and all the hype surrounding E3 will make this one of the best years GBAtemp's ever had.

tempStyle 2 is overall great in my opinion. It does, of course, have it's problems, but I really enjoy it. If you aren't using it, I recommend that you give it a try. Maybe you'll like it.
