Cid made a video where he holds the shoot buttton for like 6 minutes but heh it works PEW PEW PEW;
3 months deep into this #wii homebrew project now I am still adding details. of course these are unecessary for the gameplay and I could have just released the game as is 3 months ago but why do anything if you are not going to do the best of your ability?
Its not like I am going to get paid for it or tons of people playing it everyday but heh its an achievement for me personally. The testers who have played it are liking it so far.
THere will not be as many trees in the final game (because the wii cannot handle it at 60fps) but they make for pretty screenshots!
Not liking the purple one but I put it up here is cause. The last couple weeks of development is always the hardest. There are so many little things to fix and test. Like when you are flying under water there is nothing much to see except enemies so I have to put in some little rocks or something just to make it more lively. apart from that I have been tweeking the look of the water. Anyway see screenshots of the new title screen below;
Its come a long way. This programming thing definitely takes time and dedication. I am not even sure what I am going to do when I finally finish. Its kinda depressing really. I may have to go back to finishing persona4 on the ps2 or one of the many other games that I have in my ps2 backlog. Maybe I will be inspired to make something new but I probably should show my other hobbies some love because I have been on this none stop for the past 3 or so months.
In the screenshots below the score is on the left, then your combo meter which give you more points the higher it is or you can fire more bombs. The hearts are for you hits - 3 hits and you die. The white bar is how far you are along the level path. The numbers on the right are the current level and stage. There are 100 stages and you can play them in order or randomly so that why there are 2 numbers.
I am still working on my wii homebrew (it is the only thing I really work on of late) which I could have released a week ago but I want to release the best homebrew that I could possibly write which means that I have to at least have a boss in the game. This is what programmers call "feature creep"; you start with a base gold and as soon as you achieve something decent you want to add "Stuff"/features to it. Its a rabbit hole. Some project never end because of this. Life is like this as well, you have no money so you get a job and the first thing you do is take out a car loan so you end up not having any money then you start working extra hours because you want a fancy apartment because you have no money because of the car loan. It never ends. You have to choose to stop and ignore peer pressure.
Anyway if anybody wants to test out the development build and has a Wii console you can pm me - its free.
Life has many bumps and pot holes especially when you are young everything seems to take forever. Just be patient and do not obsess over what you might thing is currently "super" important. Got get a ice cream and learn to chill out.
Programming is hard just like many things in life but you gotta keep chugging. There is always wii homebrew.
I am a bit behind but I am almost done. Just juicing some stuff up and fixing the collision detection. Juicing is a distraction but trust me it makes a world of difference when it comes to the final presentation and look of the game.
