This guide is for maximum compatibility. If you don't care about that, you can simply use the 1.71 Debug version to make all of your EmuNANDs minimum sized. Gateway, Luma, and it's derivatives will apparently still work alright, but Cakes and ReiNAND will not be able to find any of them.

2 EmuNANDs: If you don't already have an exisitng EmuNAND on the card, use 1.2 to inject the first one in EmuNAND format, to create a legacy EmuNAND. This will ensure maximum compatibility. Then use 1.71 Debug to inject the second one in RedNAND format. This will make the second EmuNAND minimum sized, but becuase the NCSD header is in the right place, all CFW will still work with it.

3 or 4 EmuNANDs N3DS: If you don't already have an exisitng EmuNAND on the card, use 1.2 to inject the first one in EmuNAND format, to create a legacy EmuNAND. This will ensure maximum compatibility. Then use 1.61 to inject the second EmuNAND (as either EmuNAND or RedNAND, it's not going to matter). If you're going for four, also use 1.61 to inject the third EmuNAND (again, this can be in either EmuNAND or RedNAND format). Then use 1.71 Debug to inject the final EmuNAND in RedNAND format. This will make the final EmuNAND minimum sized, but because the NCSD header is in the right place, all CFW will still work with it.

3 EmuNANDs O3DS: If you don't already have an exisitng EmuNAND on the card, use 1.2 to inject the first one in EmuNAND format, to create a legacy EmuNAND. This will ensure maximum compatibility. Then continue to use 1.21 to inject the second EmuNAND (as either EmuNAND or RedNAND, it doesn't matter). Now, due to apparent bug in 1.21, the second EmuNAND will not show up in 1.71 Debug, but since a legacy parittion has been setup, it will inject the second EmuNAND as legacy sized now. So, inject the second EmuNAND again in 1.71 Debug. Due to a bug in that version, it will go ahead and repartition the card for a third EmuNAND, but this is no big deal since we want three anyway. So, once it's done, go ahead and inject the third EmuNAND as a RedNAND with 1.71 Debug. This will make the third EmuNAND minimum size, but because the NCSD header is in the right place, all CFW will still work with it.

4 EmuNANDs O3DS: If you don't already have an exisitng EmuNAND on the card, use 1.2 to inject the first one in EmuNAND format, to create a legacy EmuNAND. This will ensure maximum compatibility. Then continue to use 1.21 to inject the second and third EmuNANDs (as either EmuNAND or RedNAND, it doesn't matter). Then use 1.71 Debug to inject the fourth EmuNAND as a RedNAND. This will make the fourth EmuNAND minimum size, but because the NCSD header is in the right place, all CFW will still work with it.
