Hello,

My USB 3.0 HDD (WD My Passport 2626) does not work on my vWii. However, it does work on my actual, 2009 (yes, I know it was 2006 but mine is '09), Wii. I am blaming the two front USB ports, as they are the only hardware absent from the Wii but still available on vWii. I would like to disable them, preferably only in vWii Mode. Any suggestions?

You need to use a Y-cable for extra power as the Wii U does not provide enough power on a single port. The plug for data+power should be in the top rear port, the power only plug can be plugged into anything, even a wall adapter, as long as it can reach, but will work and provide enough power if plugged into the bottom rear port.

Disabling the front ports would not make the rear ports provide more power even if it were possible. I have seen people mod the console, soldering the power for the two rear ports together, so that a Y-cable is not necessary, but it seems a bit pointless when Y-cables are so cheap.

Thank you. I suggested this to my father, but he said it wouldn't work. I've sent him a screenshot and a link.

If none of those seem to work, has your father thought of changing the case on your HDD? That's usually the solve, check it out:

Personally, I'd just take a compatible case/enclosure and swap it with something else.
Hell, I took my laptop HDD and switched cases and had no issues...other than having to reformat+install everything for the "new" laptop HDD.
