RUMOR- Castlevania Mirror of Fate 3DS? Lords of Shadow 2?

22 May 2012 - 06:12 AM

A Dutch Nintendo news site (n1ntendo.nl) has reported that Konami is developing a new Castlevania title exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. The game is said to be titled Castlevania Mirror of Fate and it is said the game will be formally unveiled at this year's E3 next month. While Konami themselves have refused to comment on this, two website domains were registered yesterday by Konami with that exact title- castlevania-mirroroffate.com and castlevania-mirroroffate.net. This seems like confirmation of the game's existence at the very least in one form or another.

Now for the parts you should take with a grain of salt- It is rumored that a sequel to Castlevania Lords of Shadow is in development and will also be shown at E3. It is said that the game will be released for PS3, 360, Vita, and Wii U. This game remains a rumor at this point. If true, Konami should have quite an E3 showing. This same source has stated that Mirror of Fate is a sidescrolling game with co-op elements and will have some sort of connectivity with the Wii U version of the Lords of Shadow sequel.

Stay tuned for E3 early next month. Then we'll see just how much of this ends up being true!

Rayman Legends Confirmed for Wii U

27 April 2012 - 11:22 AM

After the rumor earlier this week of a Rayman Origins sequel, we now have confirmation by an official trailer (showing off plenty of gameplay). The new game is titled Rayman Legends. And thus far it has been confirmed for the Nintendo Wii U and uses of some of the controller's tablet-like features. The game retains Origin's gameplay along with its hand drawn 2D visuals. Though the levels are now designed around mythical elements such as castles, dragons, and even Greek mythology. The game will support multiplayer with up to four people even online.

The Wii U's tablet serves as an extra display for the gameplay screen, but it also has a couple of other uses. First of all, you can slide your finger to move certain platforms ingame. Rayman Legends also seems to make use of the tablet in a way similar to something Skylanders Spyro's Adventure uses, the ability to place toy models on the tablet's screen and have them affect the game. The screen seems to act as a sort of portal like in Skylanders, the object you place on it "enters" the game. A woman is seen placing a heart object on the tablet and ingame it begins to rain down hearts onto Rayman and friends (perhaps a health powerup). A boy places a figurine of a Rabbid on the screen and suddenly there are Rabbids running around the game which you can even fight. The video ends with a teaser of a boy picking up a figure of a main character from the Assassin's Creed series as if to imply Rayman Legends will further break the fourth wall and involve other Ubisoft game series.

The trailer mentions the Wii U version has features exclusive to that version. This indicates the game will arrive on other platforms. No other systems were mentioned, though the same systems Origins arrived on are probably pretty good guesses (at least 360 and PS3). No release date either. This video was leaked earlier than intended apparently. More info can probably be expected from E3. Stay tuned! If the video is removed, check the source link below for another link.

Rayman Origins Sequel Leaked Via Survey?

23 April 2012 - 09:15 PM

According to an Arkenford marketing survey, a sequel to Rayman Origins has been announced. The survey included a slideshow video showing off several screenshots of the game in development (one of which is seen above). The game uses the same sort of high resolution hand drawn visuals as the first Rayman Origins. It is said to have a single player campaign and will again support up to four player drop-in/out multiplayer just like the original. This new Rayman game contains different level types than the original Origins. Levels take designs based on mythical elements such as Greek myths, castles, vampires, ghosts, dragons, etc.

I hesitate to even refer to this as a rumor, this seems like a pretty solid bit of confirmation. Screens were released showing off some impressive and professional looking art akin to that of the first game. It won't come as any surprise if this sequel is formally unveiled at the upcoming E3 in June or even before. Please check the link below for a couple more screenshots of the game. They are a little blurry due to coming from a video stream. This is all we know at this time, no announced platforms or release date obviously (though it's safe to assume the 360 and PS3 at least will get it).

New Super Mario Bros 2 Announced For 3DS

21 April 2012 - 05:08 AM

In today's Nintendo Direct conference, Satoru Iwata formally announced a new Mario game for the Nintendo 3DS. It is titled New Super Mario Bros 2. It had previously been announced that the 3DS would be receiving a new 2D Mario game and this is apparently that game. Several screenshots were shown in the video stream and it does seem to be a direct sequel of sorts to the DS and Wii NSMB games. Visually the game looks like its DS and Wii counterparts, carrying over the visual style from them. NSMB2 however now features the raccoon suit from Super Mario Bros 3 (not the tanooki suit, which covers Mario's entire body). The "P" gauge from Mario 3 also seems to be returning (only seems to appear when Mario is in the raccoon suit). And in addition to this information, New Super Mario Bros 2 has also been confirmed for release this August 2012 in Japan. Keep your eyes out for incoming info in the near future (especially E3). Please check the second source for a few more screenshots of the game.

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion 3DS is a 2D Platformer

27 March 2012 - 09:30 PM

In addition to the upcoming sequel to Epic Mickey on consoles, the 3DS is also getting its own unique game in the Epic Mickey series. Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a sort of spinoff of the console version. Developed by Dreamrift, the 3DS version is actually not a fully 3D platforming/adventure game but instead a 2D sidescroller using sprite based graphics. It is also being created apparently as a "sequel" to Castle of Illusion on Sega Genesis. Even the graphics look strikingly similar to Castle of Illusion. The 3D effect is reported to convey a great sense of depth with the game's many scrolling background and foreground layers. I've posted the first screenshot of the game above to give you an idea of the game's style, but please excuse the bad quality as this was taken from a Nintendo Power magazine scan.

Power of Illusion also makes use of the touch screen for tapping items which you then draw into the environment. This includes platforms and weapons for example. Your accuracy will also come into play as you are penalized for not drawing the image well. For example, you can draw a cannon to hurt enemies. But if you don't draw it correctly, the cannon can backfire and hurt you as well as enemies. You can also use paint thinner to erase certain objects as well. There have been several confirmed characters that appear in the game. Scrooge McDuck appears in one of the screens. Other confirmed characters are Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Minnie Mouse. The witch from the original Castle of Illusion (whom looks very similar to the witch from Disney's Snow White) is reported to be the villain in the game. Your goal is apparently to traverse levels based off of classic Disney movies (such as Sleeping Beauty and Tangled) and save certain characters. When you save the characters, they will take refuge in a sort of hub level fortress that you will visit occasionally.

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion does not have a specific release date yet, but it is expected to hit retail around the time the console sequels do autumn of this year. Keep posted, hopefully cleaner screens and maybe a video will be shown off soon!

Thanks to heartgold for the news!
