WAD Complete Unpacker/File Viewer
09 June 2009 - 04:45 AM
Hey guys,
Hopefully you all remember me as a competent hacker and not some noob here... (If I am in fact wrong about this I'll take the ridicule... I deserve it anyway...)
I was wonder if there is any real WAD viewing tool or unpacker. I remember there being something of the sort when WADs first became known, but that only brought the files down to what I remember to be .apps? (not sure on that one...)
I know of injectuwad and all those other tools that are practically VC specific. Isn't there a tool out there that works like Nitro explorer or DS Buff? You know, complete decompile of all data? I know it's been done on a few games, (Megaman 9 for one) but I've never seen a real tool. I've gone through the downloads section with no avail. Does anyone happen to know of any tool like the one I'm describing?
If not, let this be a suggestion post to all you tool coders out there. This kind of tool will be well loved. I assure you this is a great opportunity to get yourself known.

NSMe4 Released!
14 April 2009 - 05:22 AM
Hey guys! Long time; No hacks...
Treeki just released NSMe4, the New Super Mario Bros. Editor. This version is 10x better than the last one. It now has vastly improved its graphics support and has easily navigable menus. Treeki has also built in his amazing file explorer, Nitro Explorer, into NSMe4. This allows for simple extraction/replacement of files within the ROM. Check out the thread here.

Interesting stuff in Contra 4...
15 November 2007 - 11:47 PM
So I decided to look through the Contra 4 rom to see if there was anything of interest and it appears there was.
I ended up finding the Contra.nes and SuperC.nes roms inside. They play like any other rom in an emulator. The strange thing is that there are small differences between the roms and the good NES dumps we have. I have a few pictures of them.
The files not labeled with the "good set" labeling ((u) [!]) are the ones I ripped from the Contra 4 rom.
Contra.nes differnces
SuperC.nes differences
It appears there's quite a bit of padding added to the Contra .nes rom I got from Contra 4. and the difference I found in SuperC.nes is that the "A" was changed to a "@."
I haven't tested any other NES roms yet but it's possible that other will play in Contra 4's emulator. It's entirely possible that the built in emulator only supports Contra's mappers. I cannot test any other NES roms yet because I haven't unlocked any of the extra games.
I've also found what I think is a file for a test stage and I've read through the interview in a hex editor. I also think I might have stumbled upon the levels themselves.
I'll do a little more research into this once I get a better save file or beat the game myself.
