360 runs without HDMI Cable?

So I've just recently encountered the RRoD (E74 error). However, I find that my 360 runs fine when simply attached to the power supply. When inserting a video cable however, I'm greeted with one red quadrant. I have tried other cables, but to no avail.

My question then is, what is causing this error, and can I simply repair it on my own?

I know it's a bit early, but I'm rather nervous for the upcoming valentine's. I have no clue what to get my girlfriend (whom I've been dating for about a month).
I'm only 15, so of course nothing too fancy. So any suggestions as to what I should get?

Live Disconnects when playing Cod Beta

I just recently downloaded the call of duty world at war beta, and upon booting the game, my 360 will disconnect from live.
When leaving it will immediately reconnect. I have tried connecting to live in the game's menu, but to no avail.
Note: I have played the beta online before I have just recently been receiving this issues.

What did I miss?

I just recently got back home after a two month vacation. And while I did log on and even post a few times, I'm not really up to date on

Strange Red Ring Encounter

So I just came back from vacation and I decide to try out my then unopened 360 elite. Immediately, I receive three red rings. However, after waiting a while,
I come back and the starts normally. It has been fine so far, but does anyone have an explanation for this? Forgot to add, I did have the package in my luggage.
