Uni Recommendations?
04 January 2008 - 11:42 PM
It feels weird for me to ask this in a gaming forum but I figure it's worth a shot.
First off, I'm a student at the University of Houston (Houston, Texas, USA). I have not been too happy with the school so far.
Anyway, I'm looking to specialize in Computer Networking/Security/Forensics etc.
There are many online universities available, in fact one of my good friends from high school is at the American InterContinental University Online doing network security stuff and seems to enjoy it. It sounds great and I've talked to his adviser but my biggest fear is that after I spend all that time and money in an online university that I would have trouble finding a job because they would hold "traditional" universities in a better light
I'd prefer not to just be a computer science major, because that's what I've been doing, and the curriculum (at least at UH) mostly focuses on programming...which is fine and good but I don't want to be a programmer for a living. (But I know that basic programming knowledge is good to have)
I'm willing to go anywhere in the world to get the education I need to make this goal of mine a reality. Do you GBAtempers have any recommendations for or against any particular school? Any knowledge on the creditability of online universities?
Thank you much :)

Imagine you found a way to play backups w/o mods
08 November 2007 - 07:31 AM
Okay, here goes. Imagine you found a way to run copied games on one of the current-gen systems without any modification required. I'm talking about piracy that's as easy as say, a specially burnt disc that runs the console in a diagnostic mode. in layman's terms let's say it's as easy a copying an audio cd for a friend, or downloading MP3s.
It could be for any console, but it has to be one that you truly enjoy. (can't choose a PS3 if you hate Sony in other words...)
Would you release it? Even if it risked severely hurting a company you support?
Discuss.

Who wants HL2 or HL:ep1 for free?
26 October 2007 - 09:28 AM
So I bought the Orange Box having already purchased Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 when they first came out. So I've got two "gifts" from Valve to give away. My gaming friends already have it, or only play online games and wouldn't care for this single player experience.
So, who wants it? No strings attached, I just want to get rid of 'em
note: I would prefer to give HL2 & EP1 to separate people, but if there isn't enough interest then I'll gift both of them.
For this to work I need your e-mail address so Valve can send you the key or however it works.

Bioshock: Upgrade PC or buy a Xbox 360?
05 September 2007 - 02:40 AM
Okay, so here is the situation. I'd really like to play Bioshock, and from what I can tell my old PC can't cut it.
Specs:
Athlon 64 3700+
1 GB RAM
Geforce 6600 256mb pci-E
I mostly play games on my Wii so I haven't had a need for any upgrade. At this point I was looking to build a new PC and just start from scratch but my iBook G4 gets more use than my desktop does so I didn't want to waste too much money when I could use it to buy an intel MacBook Pro. However, I'm not ready to spend that much money.
Or I could buy an Xbox360, maybe even mod it.
Right now I'm thinking about upgrading my video card and getting extra memory, but I still am considering a xbox360, there are a good number of good looking games on there. (thus I'd be one of those Wii60 people I guess)
If you were in my situation what would you do?
