Trying to remember the name of an old Mac game

04 January 2011 - 03:29 AM

Hey guys,
This has been bugging me for a long time, but there was a Mac (I think) game I played in the mid-90's I'd like to play again, but I can't remember the name. It was something to the effect of Assault The Gate I think, (but that's not it) and I remember thinking it was really cool because it had extensive cutscenes with real people (similar in style to the later Journeyman project games).

Essentially, the plot was something to the effect of humanity discovers a gate on the far side of the galaxy, but has yet to explore it. Suddenly hostile aliens attack, and either because you're trying to escape or to get something back from them, you (the captain of a starship) end up flying through the gate and end up in an unknown galaxy.

The gameplay was essentially you'd land on planets to find parts you needed to move on to the next system by either doing tower defense, providing cover fire from an immobile tank as research teams on a planet completed a mission or by driving around in a spaceship on a planet's surface to an end point while shooting at alien tanks that would attack you. Mission briefings were given by human voice actors. Every time you'd complete the mission on all the planets in the system, you'd use the gate to move on to the next system. I also recall that the cutscenes would detail an ongoing plot as you found out more about the aliens who attacked you, but I never beat it.

Anyway, I know that's kind of vague, but did anyone ever play a game like this? I'd really like to find it...

Good music to exercise to?

25 February 2009 - 06:21 AM

I don't know how many replies I'll get to this, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Recently, I've started going to a gym 3-4 times a week to work out and build some of the muscle tone and stamina I've never had. I don't mind the workout, but I tend to get kind of bored during it, so I always bring my ipod.

I've been experimenting with a variety of stuff, rock, metal, podcasts, etc. So far the music I've enjoyed the most has actually been Bon Jovi, since his stuff is pretty upbeat and rhythmic. But I was wondering, does anyone else exercise and listen to music? What do you listen to?

I could use some suggestions biggrin.gif

Any Doctor Who fans out there?

26 December 2008 - 06:40 AM

Hey folks,
I just got my fix of Doctor Who by watching the just released Christmas special involving the cybermen (again tongue.gif). Just was wondering what people thought about it or about the series in general. smile.gif

My thoughts on the special?

Warning! Spoiler inside.

Overall, I enjoyed it, definitely one of the better Russell T. Davies-written episodes in my opinion (who I've had relatively low respect for since Love and Monsters), and I can't wait for the next special (apparently coming out on Easter).

The feds aren't reporting the places they hit, but do we know if there's been an effect on any prominent merchants connected to the scene?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't search. Didn't realize this was already a thread in Off-Topic Chat. Feel free to delete this. orz
