Leap Motion reveals super-accurate motion control tech

23 May 2012 - 09:12 PM

Quote

Leap Motion has created a new device, called the Leap, it claims is 200 times more accurate than existing technology.
It's about the size of a pack of gum, and once connected to your computer via USB, it creates a four-cubic-foot virtual workspace. Within that area, it tracks all ten of your fingers simultaneously to within 1/100 of a millimeter -- that level of accuracy allows for rudimentary gestures like pinch-to-zoom and more complex actions like manipulating 3D-rendered objects. Leap Motion claims that its software can be embedded in almost anything with an onboard computer, from phones to refrigerators.
Leap brings you this next-gen UX for a mere $69.99, and a select few can pre-order them now, with the full roll-out coming this winter

Wonderful or just another gimmick for gamers?

Personally I like the idea but dont know how games can be played one is sitting on the computer.

AMD unveils Trinity chipsets

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has launched its new Trinity processor family boasting "twice the performance per watt" of its earlier Llano chips.

Like Intel's rival Ivy Bridge release, the update includes up to four CPU (central processing unit) cores and a single GPU (graphics processing unit). Trinity can be set to run off as low as 17 watts, half the minimum amount possible using Llano (their previous chipset). The move should also allow traditional-sized laptops to run off their batteries for longer (upto 12 hrs).

AMD claims that the component and the accompanying software drivers are superior to the equivalent products from Intel. AMD is keen to promote Trinity's ability to handle high definition games on systems not fitted with discrete graphics cards. They say "What we are able to do with Trinity is offer HD, 1080p resolution, gaming and deliver 30 frames per second." But Intel's advantage is that it has a bigger ecosystem - there will be 10 to 15 times the number of systems using its chips than AMD's.

AMD may be better but the market has to be changed to make it feel so. I feel I should get a amd trinity laptop (that is also going to be cheaper) rather than an intel laptop.

Opinion on website

12 May 2012 - 12:06 AM

There is a website that has been made using php and mysql. I wanted people's opinion on what features it needs more and what improvements can be made.
There wasnt any real focus on design so dont worry about that though you CAN comment on it but be nice.

Samsung Galaxy s3 unveiled

03 May 2012 - 09:36 PM

The handset has a 4.8 inch (12.2cm) screen, an increase on the 4.3 inch screen of its predecessor. Samsung said that the new Super AMOLED display was 22% larger than its predecessor, but the actual device was not much wider since it had shrunk the size of the bezel.

It added that a mix of "intelligent camera features" and face recognition technology should offer owners a more natural experience. For example, it said that the front camera would identify the user's eyes and would not go dark or lock so long as they were looking at it.

Other features on the S3 include an 8 megapixel camera on the rear, and a 1.9 megapixel front camera for video calls. The phone also uses what is described as a "natural language user interface" dubbed S Voice. The South Korean company said it was a major improvement on the voice control features it included on earlier models (Siri like).

The new handsets will be available from the end of May in Europe. Launches in Asia, the Middle East and Africa will follow. A 4G version will go on sale in the US and South Korea in the summer.

HTML, CSS and PHP suggested categories of sites

26 April 2012 - 06:44 PM

Ahhh after the many weeks hiatus, we come back to the promised tutorial on HTML, CSS and PHP (and maybe even jquery).

From the thread posted back here, after the 8th of May when my exam is over, we are going to seriously start working on this tutorial.
Therefore, now i need feedback on what types of websites you would like to be shown or created as part of the tutorial.

I will ensure all these websites are created and every required step is explained including the full creation of databases with their normalized structures.

So far these are what came to my mind AND it can be anything from a website with features or a system itself:

Store / E-Business **
Personal Page *
Blog *
Forum **
Image Host / File Host *
Directory (like telephone or game) *
Social Network **
School System **
Hospital System **
Shopping System **

Okay so no tutorial linked from Gbatemp to some programmers is complete without GAMES!! BUT the big problem is that I have never made any games and you will see the scarcity of games made in php. Then again, they are there and possible to make therefore we will make some games but ALL of them will be turn based. Sucks right? but its still going be fun:

Snakes and Ladders **
Uno *
Checkers *
Monopoly ***
Football (yes turn based football with MULTIPLAYER!! its possible... I think) ***

Note that the following is the meaning of the asterisks (* stars if you like) based on estimation

* - Easy
** - Easy but time consuming
*** - Difficult hence time consuming

So there you have it. Please suggest more types of websites or systems that you would think make sense and GAMES that would be enjoyable but remember, turn based.

Hope that brings some excitement and I am always open to suggestions and criticisms.
