Trainer Sprite Replacement in HeartGold

22 March 2012 - 03:46 PM

So, for whatever reason, I had the urge to replace Lyra's sprites in HeartGold. Only problem is... I'm clueless.

I have replacement sprites ready to go, but I don't know where to replace some of them, or how to.

I can edit the overworld sprites with a combination of BTX Editor, and some program called kiwi.ds, but I don't know which files are Lyra's sprites. I have most of them down, but I need the rest of them, and searching through over 800 files isn't exactly thrilling.

After that, I need to know how I can replace the in-battle sprites (the animation where she throws out her Pokemon), her trainer card sprite (I forget if there's a Pokeathlon variant), her mugshot, and character select sprite (if that's even possible...).

Any help is welcome, I just wanna get this done.

EZ-Flash Vi Problem?

19 March 2012 - 07:47 PM

I'm sure some of us remember that skinning contest we had a while ago to win prizes including some EZ-Flash Vi carts. Well, It's been quite a while, and I never thought I'd actually use mine, but after finding it was 3DS compatible, I decided to give it a shot.

I'm not one of those people who put it in the 3DS and said "Y U NO WERK!?", I put it in my DS (phat) in an attempt to update the firmware to the latest version first. However, I ran into a slight problem...

Upon booting up the cartridge, I'm presented with a black screen. No movement, just... black. I've tried this with and without a MicroSD inside, and I get the same results, so I'm fairly certain it's the cart. I've had this problem out of the packaging, so I know it's not something I did to it.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, is there something I can do to remedy it?

Food for Thought?

Well, someone sent me this video today, and it really spoke to me.
Da Troof

The video he references is something we should all take a look at as well, but Screwattack doesn't seem to have it anymore, so I'll link it too.

Watch the video, he's so right it almost hurts. Now, this isn't entirely the fault of video games, we have ourselves to blame. But we have to make a change if we ever want to be taken seriously.

Ubuntu and PS3 Controller

27 April 2011 - 09:08 PM

Okay, so I'm tired of Windows taking up a ton of resources on my netbook so I'm installing Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition.

I know how to install it and whatnot, as I've done it before. I removed it for one reason, and one reason only: I couldn't find how to use my PS3 controller with emulators.
I've seen tutorials on how to use the PS3 controller with Bluetooth, but my netbook lacks such a feature. I want to be able to use it via USB. I would also like to retain the pressure sensitivity of the analog sticks, rather than having them be read as fully tilted when used.

Someone suggested Joy2Key or something like it, but I assume that would go against what I want for the analog sticks (if this is not the case, please tell me).

CD-i Emulator

07 March 2011 - 01:07 AM

Recently, I've been wanting to torture myself with the game Hotel Mario for the Philips CD-i.
However, I could only find 3 emulators for the system which all have serious flaws.

1. CD-i Emulator: Requires a payment to play for more than 3 minutes between resets.
2. CD-ice: Only plays "Rise of the Robots".
3. TinyCDi: Plays Hotel Mario, The Apprentice, Dimos Quest, Alien Gate, Jokers Wild, Tetris, and a few others, but most have issues.

So far, TinyCDi is the best one I've found and it's a "Tiny" MAME build (I have no idea what that means).

For such a notorious console, why is the pool of emulators so shallow?
