Wii Raffle to Benefit the Wii Community!

20 April 2012 - 08:56 PM

Wii Raffle to Benefit the Wii Community!

Team Your Mom, with the help of a few others, are holding a Wii raffle! If it's successful we will likely hold more raffles in the future.

Our original purpose before this came to the idea of holding a raffle was just to see if it would work and prove that the new horizontal Wii's can in fact have the GameCube ports added and that it will be fully functional. After some thought and discussions with other community members it was acknowledged that taking a raw NAND dump of a wii that has never been turned on and is in a completely virgin state maybe benefit some developers with their research as they dig deeper into their understanding of the Wii console.

DeadlyFoez plans to document the whole process and his experience with adding the GameCube ports back onto the Wii console.

So here's the deal:
  • $1 USD will earn you 1 eticket in the raffle
  • 1 eticket per prize will be randomly drawn
  • Donations will only be used to cover the cost of prizes and estimated Shipping and Handling costs
  • If demand for etickets is greater than anticipated then more prizes will be purchased and raffled off
The Prizes
Rules
  • You must be 18 years of age to enter.
  • Only one prize per person can be won.
  • If not enough donations are raised to ship any of the smaller prizes then the winner must pay for the shipping or the prize will go to the next in line.
  • If not enough donations are made to purchase and ship the Wii console then all donations will be returned less the PayPal fees.
  • Anyone caught trying to cheat by using multiple paypal accounts, email addresses, etc.. will be disqualified from the raffle and their donations returned less the PayPal fees.
  • You may opt out of receiving any particular prize if it is of no use to you.
  • No one needs to be part of any particular group or forum to earn etickets.
  • The only time donations will be returned is if a person was disqualified from the raffle or if not enough donations were received to purchase and ship the Wii.
How to Enter
  • The donation link will become available April 20th, 2012, 10PM EST.
  • Send cash via the yellow DONATE button on Official Wii Raffle Page
  • For each $1 USD you donate you will earn 1 eticket in the raffle.
  • Your eticket purchases will be determined by your NET paypal purchase amount. For example, if you send $5.00 USD but after paypal transaction fees the amount received is less than $5 (e.g. $4.75 USD), you will only earn 4 etickets. Paypal allows you to select how transaction fees are payed and by whom, so you can ensure the net amount received is $5.00 USD exactly by opting to pay the fees yourself, so that you will pay $5.25 USD (or whatever it works out to be).
  • You will receive and email within 24 hours to confirm your donation amount and the corresponding number of etickets you earned.
The deadline for donations that will earn you etickets is May 4th, 2012, 10PM EST.

The Drawing

Within 48 hours after the donation deadline, each name will be drawn at random until all names have been drawn. At that time the top winners will receive an email acknowledging the prize that he or she won. If any winner decides that he or she does not want to receive the prize that he or she won then the next person on the drawing queue that has not won a prize will be notified, so on and so forth.

If we do end up raising enough funds to award more prizes then starting with the most expensive prize purchased, they will go to the next person in the queue who has not yet received a prize. We will determine if there will be more prizes once we have concluded the drawing and confirmed the locations of the initial winners.

The Fine Print

DeadlyFoez will attempt to add the GameCube ports to a new Wii. This project is strictly about that only and the disc drive will not be replaced, so although you may not be able to play official GameCube retail discs, the Gamecube games can still be loaded using DML, a WODE, or by some other means. If we are unable to purchase a new white Wii, some of the plastic pieces to the case may be missing from the Wii like the doors that cover the gamecube ports and the black plastic face that sits flush with the gamecube ports. In the very unlikely event that this experiment is a total failure then the 1st place winner will have the choice to receive a wii without the gamecube ports or a Korean Wii.
If the winner of the Wii lives in another country then DeadlyFoez will region change the wii at the winner's request. In addition to that, DeadlyFoez will order a power brick with the correct plug type and have that shipped to the winners location upon request. If another power brick is ordered then the one that originally came purchased with the Wii will not be shipped to the winner.
The GameCube controller, the GameCube Memory card, and the 3DS Protective case will all be shipped without the original packaging, but the items all have less than 1 hour of use, so pretty much still like brand new and undamaged at the time of shipping.
No one may dispute the donations that he or she has given.

MAKE A TUTORIAL VIDEO AND GET A MODMII EASTER EGG
Merry Christmas Everyone!

I come bearing the opportunity to get ModMii's Easter Egg for free! All you need to do is create a ModMii usage video from the list of tutorial topics below. I will add the best ones for each topic to the first post in the ModMii thread but I will award Easter Eggs to the top 2 entries for each topic. There is no timelimit on this offer, it will only disappear once all the video's have been made (which could take awhile).

Here's the list of topics so far:
(feel free to make suggestions for tutorials not in this list)
  • How to Install ModMii - Completed by Terminator02
  • ModMii Wizard Usage (1 volunteer so far: Terminator02)
  • USB-Loader Setup Guide Usage (1 volunteer so far: Nujui)
  • HackMii Solutions Usage
  • Saving\Loading a Download Queue - Completed by person66
  • ModMii Command Line Usage (do not use ModMii v5.0.0 for this video, plz wait for the next update)
  • ModMii File Cleanup (do not use ModMii v5.0.0 for this video, plz wait for the next update)
  • ModMii's Sneek Installer (do not use ModMii v5.0.0 for this video, plz wait for the next update)
  • Emulated NAND Builder
  • Emulated NAND Modifer (do not use ModMii v5.0.0 for this video, plz wait for the next update)
  • Game Bulk Extractor (for SNEEK) - Completed by FIX94
  • How to make forwarder dols\ISOs - Completed by FIX94
  • How to change the version\slot # of a cIOS\IOS
  • User Defined Custom Downloads: How to download an IOS\MIOS\SM that isn't listed on ModMii standard downloads
  • sysCheck Updater (1 volunteer so far: Luigi2011SM64)
  • Explaining\Changing\Saving ModMii's Options
  • How to check for and build different d2x cIOS versions\beta's

For an example of what I'm looking for check out the outdated NUS Auto Downloader tutorial video from the first post of the ModMii page (see my signature or the stickies for a link)

If you begin working on a video, please try to let me know what topic\video you are working on so I can let you know if anyone else is working on the same thing. If you want I'll be able to direct you to a video no one else has started on yet.

I'm not sure what kind of interest this will generate, if anything, but I hope to see a few people make some awesome videos :D

edit:
Here are some requirements for the videos:
  • No audio (that means no mouse click sounds either).
  • If your desktop is displayed in the video, it should have a black background and no icons displayed (My Computer and Recycling Bin is okay)
  • If it is necessary for your taskbar to be in the video, it should not have unnecessary windows open or any custom items pinned to it or your system tray. You may want to consider using the taskbar's auto-hide feature.
  • No using notepad to record\type instructions, if instructions are required they should be inserted using video editing software (ie. Sony Vegas Studio, etc.)
  • Keep text to a minimum, only comment on the important things, no need to write things like "My PC is slow"
  • Keep your name out of the text, you'll be given credit for your video in ModMii's credits so no need to have it in the video (if you've already made a video with your name in it or you really want it in the video, then don't worry about it)
  • Use Calibri font for any instructional text added to the videos
  • All text, including ModMii's, must be legible
  • Make sure video is not unnaturally stretched
  • all videos should start with no windows open, start by clicking on the ModMii icon to start the app and also go through the scam warning, and try to leave a few seconds of no movement at the start of the video just in case for editing purposes.
  • Keep mouse movements to a minimum
  • Use ModMii's default drive settings "D" (ie. "COPY_TO_SD") or the SD card letter for your SD Card (same applies for USB HDD drive settings)
  • If copying files over to a FAT device, use a blank SD card or HDD
  • Don't repeat softmodding steps that are a part of ModMii's custom guides, instead tell people to follow their custom guides
  • All final videos should be sent to me or DeadlyFoez so we can upload it to youtube ourselves. The reason for this is just to make sure all the videos are in one place and we have control over them to make sure they don't get deleted. Of course you are still free to mirror the videos on youtube under your own account if you want to.

5.0.0 Changelog

  • ModMii's generated guides are no longer text files;
instead they are custom html files viewable in your internet browser.
Although none of the softmodding steps actually changed, the guides were
rebuilt from the ground up. They now include images, videos, credits,
    a print button and more.
DeadlyFoez played a key role in this update not only by helping come up
with the idea but also creating the template for ModMii's custom guides
and recording almost all of the videos and images they use. Within 1.5 weeks
since our initial conversation we were able to collaborate and bring the
idea to life in time to release it for Christmas. Working together on this
was a truly rewarding and fun experience for both of us and we hope it brings
a little "Team Your Mom" XMAS cheer to you this year.

  • When accessing the credits from the main menu using "CR" it will open a new
browser tab instead of displaying the credits in the main ModMii Window.

  • ModMii Wizard Guides for already modified Wii's to update the HBC or Bootmii
no longer include exploits. Instead, if users cannot load the hackmii installer
from the HBC, BootMii or a forwarder channel they are instructed to use
    ModMii's HackMii Solutions Guide instead.

  • Added videos to the ModMii Wizard to help users determine their system menu
    version and Homebrew channel version.

  • When ModMii opens the Letterbomb webpage it also opens a separate panel with
an instructional video on finding your MAC address and downloading Letterbomb.

  • Changed how System Menu Theme youtube videos are previewed.

  • Added drag and drop support for ModMii's sysCheck Updater. Now when users drag
and drop their sysCheck logs onto ModMii.exe (or shortcut) ModMii will
immediately analyze the log and display a list of required downloads in order
    to update the softmod.

  • Fixed d2x cIOS v7-final detection when using ModMii's sysCheck Updater feature.

  • Relaxed serial number length restrictions in emulated NAND builder so US users
can use their real serial even if it's only 11 digits when building non-US NANDs.

  • Updated md5 for re-uploaded nSwitch channel (v4.8.2.1 partial update).

  • ModMii: Now so sexy you'll need a fresh pair of pants.

  • Other minor changes.
