Red and Black Wii Consoles and Softmodding

I looked around and couldn't find any information so maybe i'm not searching right. IDK
Anyway, I was thinking of rebuying another Wii (sold my last one) for softmodding and all that good stuff but wanted to get the red or black edition. Does anyone know if they are compatible with softmodding?
I read that past a certain serial number increment they are not.

fail on quests in ffta2

Question about "hacked" VC Files

I read across the interwebs that Nintendo is working on releasing an update to block the hacked VC wads (roms) from being used and you'll have to use the update in order to continue using the console.

Problem I have is my wii isn't modded but I want to play vc games on it but I don't see the point in paying 5-15 for games I have sitting in my closet.

Has anyone heard anything?

Since it seems GBA games are no longer being made and many in the torrent community are coining GBA roms as abandonware now, I was just wondering if there are anymore releases or games that have not been dumped.

Reason being - there's been 6 releases since the GBA roms were considered abandonware.

Does anyone in here play it? or even heard of it?

It's really addicting and hard in some spots but it has to have one of the most indepth battle systems I've seen.
