Mod edit. We appreciate this is user submitted news but we are trying to keep these topics all together.

Mojang reveals its next game: Scrolls

02 March 2011 - 02:04 AM

QUOTE
Scrolls is Mojang's next game and offers a new and unique game play where you fight to outmaneuver your opponent on the battlefield using the destructive powers in your collection of magical scrolls. Tear your opponent limb from limb with the might of your summoned armies, lay waste to the defenses with the obliterating power of your siege weapons or open up the very skies and let bolts of lightning shower his minions until only ash remains. The road to victory is yours to choose. Obtain the powerful scrolls and decide which ones you will take to battle as you fight to become the mightiest Magician of all.

There is no gameplay screenshots included. There's also a email subscription and alpha testing signup form. Furthermore, Notch has been mentioning this "second project", which we now know is Scrolls, is being mainly worked on by someone other than Notch (can't remember his name).

PS3 Hackers able to sign code (and more)!

29 December 2010 - 07:02 PM

Currently one of the biggest hacking conventions, Chaos Communication Congress (27C3), is being held in Berlin and there have been some startling advancements announced by a team of PS3 Hackers.

QUOTE
The first few minutes of the conference were spent explaining the state of security on other consoles (Wii, 360, etc). Following this, the group went on to explain the current state of affairs on the PS3. First, explaining Geohot's memory line glitching exploit from earlier this year. The team then went on to explain the current PS3 security bypasses, such as jailbreaking and service mode/downgrading.

Approximately a half hour in, the team revealed their new PS3 secrets, the moment we all were waiting for. One of the major highlights here was, dongle-less jailbreaking by overflowing the bootup NOR flash, giving complete control over the system. The other major feat, was calculating the public private keys (due to botched security), giving users the ability to sign their own SELFs Following this, the team declared Sony's security to be EPIC FAIL!

Rumor: PSJailbreak Team has Firmware Master Keys

16 October 2010 - 08:32 PM

quote
apparently, someone who had access to the certain keys for the ps3 firmware is in contact with ps jailbreak team. when i meant someone, it has the possibilities of someone who have worked for sony or had left the company for several obvious reasons. well, if that someone has an access to the master key, then the ps jailbreak team is really going to owned sony this time. in fact, the japanese corporation almost have no chance to fight back the ps3 jailbreak scene.

well if this is real then no wonder they started charging for other firmware support, i thought they would have charged people money to use it on an earlier firmware...but this makes more sense.

keep in mind this is just a rumor and could very well be false.

PSN Title Direct Downloader

15 October 2010 - 01:10 AM

Here a nice Java webapp which can download PSN titles straight to your PS3 via FTP from a large repository of demos, videos, patches, and full games.

http://ps3.brewology.com/psn/downloader.php

It will also automatically update the repository with anything you download that hasn't been added yet. I think it's pretty cool, it's one step closer to getting a hub of homebrew/psn downloads for the PS3. Now it just needs to be ported to the PS3 :\
