New iOS Game : NeonPlat

28 February 2012 - 04:22 PM

Platdude!! AppStore ($0.99/£0.69)

Finally leaping over to iOS after a really long while.
I've really struggled to do a JNKPlat on iOS. Needs too many buttons, and the iPhings have none. Not a good combination!

But here's a NeonPlat game. hurray!

It's not a puzzley thing, but it IS a great little slice of arcade mayhem.

Grab the balls, chuck 'em at bad guys, run around, leap about, and try not to get killed.
Sorted!

NeonPlat Adventures

Introducing a super happy neon platforming adventure game, that'll keep you playing for ages!

Freeware for Windows, Linux and MacOSX.

Good old fashioned "run right" mechanics.
Bucketloads of bad guys.
Weapons to throw.
Powerups galore.
and a calendar..

The Calendar

I love a good Mario adventure as much as the next guy, but those stupid Map screens are a bag of crap.
If you play them like I do, you'll play through the game once, then go back and play your favourite 3 levels over and over until you can't be bothered anymore.
Instead, in this game, you get 4 levels, one after the other, and a scoreboard/graph to tell you if you've doing better or worse.
And once you've done those 4 levels to death, you pick a different day and get a completely different 4 levels.
The Calendar system of level picking gives you hundreds/thousands of days to choose from. Every day, up until today, and then a new set of levels each and every day.
Each day with it's own little scoreboard and graph, and a little neonplat mark on the calendar for each level you manage to complete.
Pick a day, get 4 levels, try to complete, rinse and repeat.

250+ freeware games!

There are now over 250 games in my Archive!

There's loads of games for Windows, there's plenty that also support Mac and Linux, a pocketful of Nintendo DS Homebrew, and even some old things for those J2ME Java phones that nobody has anymore!
There's even a pile of Browser games, made using the PlayMyCode.com website!

They're all there, and you can go have a play right now! (assuming the server doesn't die under the stress!)

260...

It's such a lovely number...

.
It's exactly 1/10th of an Atari!

Nintendo Needs Indies : The Tumblr Site

What if, rather than pottering about, we tried to make decent looking sellable games, in the hopes that Nintendo might one day actually give a shit about the games that we're making?

I've decided to start something new. It's been on my mind for a few weeks, (I tweeted the logo about 2 or 3 weeks ago!), but tonight I figured I'd slap up a Tumblr site and get the idea started properly.

NNI : Nintendo Needs Indies

Create homebrew games with the mindset of selling them legally.
I'm using the Apple Appstore as my rule of thumb, but go with whatever store of choice you prefer!

Any great games get popped onto the list, and folk can use the nice little badges to promote their game, just as if Nintendo had given them one of their Seal of Quality badges.

simple!

'tis only my Sheepy game at the minute. Like I said, just started!!
(but #2 and #3 have been picked!!)

Feel free to post any thoughts, complaints about my game being number one, and maybe even a few tips for future games.

Let's kick this homebrew thing up a notch, shall we!?!

Sheep Goes Left : DS Test

Pros
. It's kinda working, and considering this is only day 2 of development, it's come out ok.. (Day 1 was 2 weeks ago, mind!!)

Cons
. It's kinda not all working yet!
. The "slow" objects are broken due to me tweaking the game to fit the DS. For the most part this is completely unnoticable, but due to the way I got everything timed nicely, it basically means I'm going to have to rebuild/test Every Single Level.. GRrrrr.r..!!!!
. The backgrounds aren't in. The world 1 one is, but none of the others are. This means that once you hit Worlds 7 and 8, you inexplicably slide over grass for no reason. ! It's meant to be the Ice world, but it isn't!
. The Flame sprites, Coaster sprites, and more aren't in.. The coaster is now a crapload of spikes, and .. well, I just took out everything after world 8 to save me having to fix the flame! Lazy Jay!
. The Music isn't in. .. I'd have to turn the whole lot into Mods, and I'm REALLY not looking forward to doing that!!
. No saves. There's only 8 worlds to play through, so keep your DS powered until you're done!!!! (If you make it beyond world 8, strange things will begin to occur!!! It may be playable, but isn't tested, so will probably kill you fairly quickly!)
. No Scores. um.. *shrugs* Just couldn't be arsed wink.gif

Features
. Spikes
. Lots of Spikes
. LOADS of Spikes!!
. 3 lives per world (back to level one of the world if you lose all lives)
. Sheep
. 40 levels!

Reasons
People can buy the iOS edition, so if they want it fully working and complete RIGHT NOW, there it be. It's in the AppStore, costs you $2, comes with 200 levels and even has a nice big proper soundtrack for the entire game.

I've spent about 10 hours or so converting this over to DS, but if I want to move forward from this point, it's going to take me AGES to get it all done!!!

This is the "As quick as I can, let's see how it goes" edition, and considering the amount of work I've realised it'll need, I've decided to stop here for now.

If there's enough interest, (as in PEOPLE ACTUALLY REPLY AND SAY "YES PLEASE", as opposed to leaving this an empty thread), then I'll settle into the long haul, and make a proper kick-ass game out of it all.
But if the game falls flat (like it inexplicably has on the iPhings) then.. well.. no harm done.. 10 hours hasn't killed me.

So, do what you can... Drum up support.
Let me know if you want more, and, hey, if you've got friends with iPhings, (who hasn't!?) tell them about it too, so I can get me sum munies!!!

Enjoy what there is, and reply! For god's sake, reply!!!!
